Aisles of Miles: Birth, Boxes, and Bootlegs Our friends at Jazz and Coffee have
taken a deep dive into three releases from Miles Davis this year: Miles '54,
Birth of the Blue, and Miles in France 1963 & 1964 . "Miles '54" collects the
five sessions he recorded that year for Prestige with hard-bop legends like
Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, and Horace Silver. "Birth of the
Blue" captures the nascent Miles Davis Sextet in May 1958, just ten months
before they would record the iconic "Kind of Blue." Lastly, "Miles in France
1963 & 1964" is the eighth volume in Legacy Recordings' ongoing Miles Davis
Bootleg Series, showcasing the Miles Davis Quintet in the year leading up to and
including one of the first gigs by his Second Great Quintet.
