MESMERIZING VIDEO CAPTURES SOLO CELLIST BECOMING A 12-PERSON ORCHESTRA!

Who needs a full orchestra when you have technology? Cremaine Booker, who goes
by That Cello Guy online, is a classically-trained cellist who has performed
extensively around the country. He is currently the principal cello for
Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and he
serves as a studio cellist for various musical acts. The ongoing COVID-19
pandemic has meant far fewer performances than usual, so Cremaine finally had
the time to work on a piece he’s always hoped to cover.



Gabriel Fauré’s “Pavane” originated in 1887 as a traditional Spanish court
dance. The orchestral version calls for 12 cellists to perform the many nuances
of the piece, but Cremaine played every part himself! He painstakingly recorded
all 12 parts, and then he edited them together into one big, beautiful song.




“Faure’s Pavane is soooo gorgeous,” he wrote on Facebook. “This version for 12
Cellos (yes, TWELVE) was such a huge undertaking, but I made it happen (whew!).
Doing tempo changes with 12 parts Is NOT easy, but I’m proud of how it turned
out. I hope you enjoy.”




Cremaine’s version is incredibly atmospheric, and we can’t get enough of
watching his fingers and bow pluck out the perfect notes at the perfect time.
