After graduating high school in 1977, and due to his impressive record on the field, Walls was offered, and accepted, a football scholarship to Grambling State, where he excelled in all positions. Walls gives credit to Coach Eddie Robinson for helping him mature as a human being. Among Walls list of accomplishments while at Grambling State, he was selected for the Kodak 1AA All-American team; the Black College All-American team; and during his college senior year, he led the nation in interceptions. At the end of his college career, Walls attended the Cowboy’s training camp as a free agent. He made the squad in 1981 and donned the “blue-stared” #24 jersey. His eight years with the Cowboys is filled with accolades and accomplishments. In his rookie year, he broke the single season record with 11 interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl team in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1985. In 1981, 1982 and 1985 he led the NFL in interceptions. In 1986, he was the youngest player named to the Cowboys 25th Year Anniversary Team, and in 1987 he was named Cowboy’s Man of the Year. In 1990, Walls continued his career with the New York Giants, where he was the leading pass defender with six interceptions on the Giants’ Super Bowl Team. In 1992, he signed and started with the Cleveland Browns. After retiring from football in 1993, Walls was named to the All Time Cowboy’s Team. He was appointed to the NFL’s All Decade Team for the 1980’s, and in 1998, he was elected to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Walls exhibits star power off the field as well. He serves as a TV personality and commentator for various national sports talk shows and is involved in real estate development. Giving back to the community that supported him is very important to Walls, as he donates his time to various charitable organizations and events. Walls is a dedicated husband, married to Shreill Walls and is a devoted father of two; Cameron Collins Walls and Charis Shreill Walls. The family attends Hamilton Park First Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas, and resides in the Dallas area. * NEWS SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Everson Walls was nominated by Sports Illustrated writer Richard Deitsch for the 2007 Sportsman of the Year Award. Everson Walls was honored by teammates, celebrities, community leaders, and other dignitaries for his service and humanitarianism on Dec 7th at the Belo Mansion in Dallas, TX. Former Cowboys player and Dallas businessman Pettis Norman was the keynote speaker HONORS Everson Walls was also honored as the recipient of The Landry Legend Award at the Cowboys Alumni Association. The award was presented by Alicia Landry, wife of the late Tom Landry. "I think I finally belong," Walls said, "after giving a part of my body, they finally gave me the kind of respect that I've been looking for, for quite some time, (laughing) but I'll take it. I'll take it." GIVING AND RECEIVING Everson and Ron made it official at a press conference at the Stonebriar Country Club that Walls will donate a kidney to the ailing Springs, suffering from kidney failure, from the effects of diabetes. It ends a three-year wait for Springs to find a donor and it turns out to be his former teammate and already close friend. They intended for the matter to be kept secret. But Spring’s son Shawn was so excited he inadvertently spoke to a reporter about it. “We just want to get Ron well.” DID YOU KNOW Ronald Aronoff, M.D. led Walls' surgical team and successfully retrieved one of his kidneys in a two-hour procedure. "This is the greatest moment of my life," Springs said. "I have three kids and I married a wonderful wife. This is right up there with them."Before surgery, Ron spoke to Everson's mother. "I want to thank you for having that son," he said seriously.
