THE RACE FOR LIFE EXPERIENCE

"You feel connected to so many people and part of a community"

"The atmosphere is just amazing. People are all there for a reason, usually to
remember somebody or support somebody who’s going through cancer. When you read
the signs on people’s backs it makes you feel connected to so many people and
part of a community."

Viv, Race for Life Darlington 2022

“I’m excited to support Race for Life and play my part to fund research"

“It’s thanks to advances in research and treatments that I’m here and can enjoy
more special moments with my family and friends. I’m excited to support Race for
Life and play my part to fund research today which I hope will also help beat
cancer for future generations.”

Carly, Race for Life at home 2020

"Race for Life was an inspiring, uplifting, memorable day"

“Race for Life was an inspiring, uplifting, memorable day surrounded by so many
wonderful people each with their own story of how cancer has affected their
lives. For me, having my best friend facing stage 4 cancer, the toughest fight
of her life all I can do is support her and do what I can to make that journey
less daunting and lonely. Race For Life brought people together and with Viv
starting the race off, showed the support, care and compassion from the
community – it was amazing!”

Tracy, Race for Life Darlington 2022

"I would like to do whatever I can to raise cancer awareness"

“I ran Race for Life in Guildford in August 2022 and raised £800. I will
probably run it again next year. I would like to do whatever I can to raise
awareness among men not to ignore symptoms, which I think is a tendency. I feel
really lucky that although I tried to pretend nothing was wrong at first myself
when I found a lump, I did go to the doctors two weeks later and got diagnosed
and treated.”

Ian, Race for Life Guildford

“I raised £450 and really enjoyed the experience.”

“In 2020, I took part in a clinical trial to treat stage 4 colorectal cancer. By
October 2021, I was in remission. During the trial I was well enough to do the
Pretty Muddy Race for Life in Reading with my best friend. I raised £450, really
enjoyed the experience and would have done it again this year had the date not
clashed with a holiday I’d booked! I’ll probably sign up to do it next year.”

Natasha, Pretty Muddy® Reading, 2020

“We all got so muddy on a rainy day. I loved it.”

“I had a goal of taking part in an obstacle race, but at the same time wanted to
raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.  The race was really fun and
made me feel really strong and full of energy when I finished it.  A lot of my
friends, my dad and teachers also took part to support me, and we all got so
muddy on a rainy day. I loved it.”
