If you’re frustrated and still calculating your movements to finish the
100-meter race in Bennett Fody’s QWOP, well maybe it’s time to take a breath and
try your luck with his ultimate bizarre game: Getting Over It with Bennett
Foddy. As expected, he developed the game to look relatively easy and feel like
a soothing climbing game with a side-note of philosophy for everyone to enjoy.
That’s half true since the objective of the game is as simple as reaching the
summit. The catch? Easier said than done.


READY TO START CLIMBING?



> This game is frustrating enough that players can’t stop once they’ve started
> it. Some people just can’t get over with game’s unfair and absurd nature.



Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a popular video game platform that
requires grit and patience. The rules are simple. You just have to reach the end
of the mountain to beat the game. It won’t be easy though, given the strange
design of the mountains. A tribute to Jazzuo’s B-Game classic Sexy Hiking, this
brilliant game layout comprises ridges of bizarre, yet familiar objects stacked
upon one another.


UNFAIR AND ABSURD

Meet Diogenes, your game character whose torso sticks out of a cauldron full of
water. The real Diogenes was a Greek philosopher who gained notoriety for his
unconventional choices of where to sleep, like the inside of a large ceramic jug
in the middle of a marketplace. To control his movements and ascend the
mountainside, you must swing the Yosemite hammer. Any little misstep or bad
swing can see you suffering a hard fall back to a certain point of the game or
at worst, the very beginning. Simultaneously, listen up for Foddy's voice, which
can be heard spouting commentary about your current situation and even words of
encouragement. Feedback may be of little comfort though, as your sanity begins
to run dry with the unfair, absurd nature of the game.

Indeed, your character cannot die (unless you happen to drop him in the lake
left of the starting area). There are no checkpoints.There is really no strict
rule of thumb. It's a bit of a free for all and just plain hoping that you get
over that mountain. This game is so frustratingly addictive that players just
can’t stop once they have started.It is insanity meets fun meets obsession.


WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

Regardless, the game is easy to grasp: if you’re good with the controls, you’ll
end up in the next phase of the game. Just figure out the good and bad
attributes of your character and soon enough, you’ll be well on your way.


ENDING IT WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH

After you’ve successfully finished the game, a pop-up question tab will appear.
It will ask you if you’re playing the game alone or streaming it online. if you
answer yes, you’ll end up in a secret chat room hosted by Foddy. There, you’ll
read a personal congratulatory message and even have the chance for a quick chat
with the man himself. For those who honestly answer no, you’ll unfortunately end
up in the game menu without having access to the room. If you’re still adamant
about having that convo, be prepared to play from the beginning.


WHERE CAN YOU RUN THIS PROGRAM?

This game is so popular that it can be played on either your desktop or mobile
phone.


IS THERE A BETTER ALTERNATIVE?

There are many platform video games out there that are waiting to be explored.
If you’re finding more relaxed games with the same objective and controls, you
can try a classic game like Super Mario Bros. Cited as one of the greatest video
games of all time, Super Mario Bros offers a lot more stages with different
levels of difficulty and a more complete storyline. Its precise controls has won
the praise of critics.

But, if you’re hooked with Getting Over It’s illogical nature, you can try
Foddy’s other popular games like QWOP and CLOP, which are simpler by comparison
but nonetheless, frustrating as ever. For hardcore fans of the game, try Sexy
Hiking, the game’s inspiration for its existence.


OUR TAKE

Getting Over It is definitely one of the best of its kind. The game’s moral
lesson is pretty evident throughout the game: failure is not defined by your
fall, but by your unwillingness to try again. The game breaks all expectations
and leaves you with an honest experience. The absurdity of it makes the game
engaging and its purposely unfair nature fuels players' mad obsession. Careful
though, because the joke that gets a few chuckles can leave a bitter aftertaste
for the player.


SHOULD YOU DOWNLOAD IT?

Only if you’re up for a test of patience, and determination. This game will
definitely drive you crazy to your core and can bother you at times. The
adrenaline rush that comes with playing it though, will lead you to sweet
success. After all, the most appreciated view is that from the summit. If you’re
willing to spend some pennies on a game you may never play again after winning,
check this out. If you’re more into games with a more established and
complicated storyline, unfortunately, you’ll have to look for another game.
