EDDIE REDMAYNE AND THE ART OF OBSESSION

The Oscar-winning actor with a penchant for transformation plays an exacting
assassin in “The Day of the Jackal”

Redmayne says of his “Day of the Jackal” character, “Given that he basically is
an actor, I was like, ‘How would I do this? How would I get away? How would I
manipulate these people in my life to accomplish this?’ It was pretty dark
territory, but it was intriguing.” (Charlie Clift)

Most conversations about Eddie Redmayne’s craft, whether you’re chatting with
the Oscar winner himself or one of his collaborators, will invariably include
the word “meticulous.” Or “granular.” Maybe “methodical.” One way or another,
expect to hear about an attention to detail which, Redmayne concedes, may
occasionally border on extreme.
