Unlike other types of surveys that result in maps, topographic surveys are performed using EDM, GPS technology and drone mapping. The resulting topographic map includes a series of contour lines, which can be used to identify the changes in land conditions that have taken place over time. In addition to identifying the contours of the ground beneath and around a property, topographic surveys also map existing features on the earth’s surface as well as features that are slightly above or below it. These include trees, streets, buildings, manholes, walkways, utility poles, retaining walls, and other such land features. × Topographic surveys Topographic surveys are performed in order to identify both natural and man made features of a particular piece or area of land. The end product of a cadastral survey is a title deed which is an important instrument for obtaining financing from banks. It is used as security for loans as it serves as proof of ownership for a parcel of land. We also carry out beacon re-establishment in case the original beacons are ‘lost’ or have been decimated by adverse weather conditions. × Control Surveys Also known as static surveys, control surveys are meant to tie particular projects to the national geodetic control network of the country. The workflow involves occupying survey pillars and new control stations with GPS receivers simultaneously and allowing them to log data for a period of 45mins to 1 hour. The logged data is then downloaded and processed using specialist software. Control surveys are so called because their main purpose is control densification. It is a very accurate process and the final report showcases the error ellipses associated with the process. × Pipeline / Water-way Surveys Every water engineer needs to understand the route profile that pipelines are going to be laid down on before doing any design. The deliverable of a pipeline survey is a plan and profile document that shows the engineer the height level at a particular point along a route. We are experts in fine-tuning these deliverables. × Stockpile Management & Volumetric Calculations Companies that deal with bulk quantities of material such as cement and earth-moving companies sometimes need a close estimate of the amount of material they’re dealing with. For instance, cement companies routinely need to carry out audits of piles of raw material. In the case of earth-moving companies, accurate bids for services cannot be made without an accurate estimation of the material to be moved. In either case, we have the knowledge to generate accurate volumetric calculations. Derrick has been involved in many stockpile measurement assignments for East African Portland Cement (EAPC) and Cement Company of Rwanda (CIMERWA) while working for his previous employer. ×
