The scam syndicate defrauded Australian investors out of more than $1 billion over the past decade in fake investment portfolios. Codenamed Operation Tropicana, 24 raids were conducted simultaneously in February 2023 at call centres, companies and houses in Kuala Lumper and Penang, resulting in 81 arrests, the seizure of over AUD 4 million in cash and the arrest of several bank employees and professional facilitators. Not a single Police officer was involved in this operation.
