OVERVIEW

This inaugural Scams summit promises to address why we are seeing a rise in
scams, whilst revealing the the more deeper fraudulent activity behind a simple
scam, that is robbing many Australians of not only their bank balances and
lifetime savings but their lives.

Australia has become a target for scammers globally and along with recent cyber
security breeches, a national security issue of significance.

This Scams Summit will bring together a unique speaker faculty that promises to
reveal why we see this activity on the rise and what should be done to address

THE TRUTH ABOUT SCAMS

9:00 AM

OPERATION TROPICANA - BUSTING A BILLION-DOLLAR BRITISH SCAM CARTEL

KEN GAMBLE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & CHAIRMAN, IFW GLOBAL

Ken Gamble showcases the recent joint scam busting operation conducted by IFW
Global and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), resulting in the
take down of a major international investment scam ring based in Kuala Lumper.
The scam syndicate defrauded Australian investors out of more than $1 billion
over the past decade in fake investment portfolios. Codenamed Operation
Tropicana, 24 raids were conducted simultaneously in February 2023 at call
centres, companies and houses in Kuala Lumper and Penang, resulting in 81
arrests, the seizure of over AUD 4 million in cash and the arrest of several
bank employees and professional facilitators. Not a single Police officer was
involved in this operation. This talk examines the inside story of the group’s
methodology, their protection by corrupt law enforcement officials, their vast
money laundering network, links to international organised crime and human
trafficking groups.

 * How can we increase the awareness and use of PayID to combat financial scams?
 * We can already verify bank accounts and ID with CDR so why don’t we do that?
