SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE

Supply chain management is an essential part of the daily lives of everyone
across the globe. It includes planning, executing, and monitoring the movement
of goods through a distribution channel, ensuring value creation for the end
customer. The importance of a fully functional supply chain was on full display
during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the virus and fear spread worldwide,
supermarket shelves of toilet paper and hand sanitizers were only the visible
impacts customers saw. Behind the scenes were production stoppages, shortages of
raw materials, and many other factors that made up the reality of the virus's
impact on a fragile supply chain.

Careers in supply chain management are not only exciting and lucrative but also
offer endless opportunities to succeed. According to the US Bureau of Labor, the
median starting salary for Supply Chain Specialists/Logisticians is $75,000 a
year, with significant increases in salaries projected throughout one's career.
UW-Platteville's Supply Chain Management certificate program can open doors in
this high-demand industry.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 * Course 1: Inventory Planning and Control, Materials Management and Production
   Planning Systems

Course 1 will serve as an introduction to the world of material management.
It will provide an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals surrounding the
operational activity called material management and will focus primarily on
the fundamentals of material management as a functional activity. Without a
solid understanding of material management basics, appreciating the important
role it can play is difficult.

 * Course 2: Capacity Management, Production Activity Control, Demand
   Forecasting, and Inventory Fundamentals

Course 2 addresses what firms do to plan, determine the capacity needed to
execute their Material Requirements Plans, and manage their inventory.
Additionally, we will explore how firms use demand forecasting to predict
inventory levels needed to meet customer demand. Finally, we will discuss how
firms can reduce the costs associated with holding inventory.

 * Course 3: Physical Inventory, Lean Processes, Physical Distribution, Products
   and Processes and Quality Management

In Course 3, the discussion will revolve around the importance of inventory
integrity where the physical matches the systemic inventory. Process
development and the elimination of waste within the process will also be
examined using Lean Six Sigma. In addition, the product life cycle of
inventory and the different stages that a product moves through during its
life will be examined. Furthermore, we will discuss warehouse management and
explore the transportation/shipping methods used in industry to support a
global platform. Finally, Total Quality Management (TQM) methodology will be
   examined.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

   suppliers and customers.

   organization.
 * Demonstrate your understanding of the process by which a company adds value
to a product or service that the end customer would be willing to buy.
 * Understand the importance of implementing sustainability within the supply
   chain.
 * Identify Lean and Six Sigma methodology used to reduce waste along the supply
   chain.

   transporting goods around the globe.
