ENDING HUNGER IN WEST ALABAMA

MILLIONS OF AMERICANS STRUGGLE TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE. THE WEST ALABAMA FOOD
BANK, LOCATED IN NORTHPORT, ALABAMA, WORKS YEAR ROUND TO END HUNGER BY SECURING
DONATIONS, AND SAFELY STORING AND DISTRIBUTING FOOD TO HUNGER RELIEF PROGRAMS.
WAFB OPERATES A 52,000 SQUARE FOOT WAREHOUSE WITH AN ON SITE COOLER AND FROZEN
STORAGE. IN 2017 THERE WAS AN ESTIMATED 4 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD AND SUPPLIES
DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE WEST ALABAMA REGION.

 

IN OUR REGION, INCLUDING BIBB, FAYETTE, GREENE, HALE, LAMAR, MARION, PICKENS,
SUMTER AND TUSCALOOSA COUNTIES, FOOD INSECURITY RANGES FROM RATES OF 15 TO 31
PERCENT, NUMBERS THAT CAN REPRESENT MORE THAN TWICE THE 12.7 PERCENT U.S.
AVERAGE.
