CHILDREN'S DANCERS Growing up in a town where learning Scandinavian folkdance in the summer is annual activity is pretty special. The Junction City Scandinavian Festival would not be the same without the many levels of kids dancing throughout the day. Children as young as two can be a dancer, as long as they attend the handful of practices prior to the Festival and have a costume. The age groups for dancing goes through high school and beyond. Find out when practices are held and who how to contact the group directors over on the Dance page. The Tomte will be featured with an animal they are frequently pictured with in folklore. Being small in size, Tomte possess great strength, a love for work, passion for chores and affection for children. You will often see them with a pig, goat, chicken, cat or dog as they love animals. Hosting a Tomte can be helpful and bring luck to their homestead, as long as they are fed! The Tomte is an important part of Scandinavian folklore and we are excited to be featuring them on our next set of Junction City Scandinavian Festival membership pins. EVENT INFORMATION AUGUST 8TH - 11TH, 2024 The 63rd annual Junction City Scandinavian Festival is fast approaching. This event is hosted by the Scandinavian Cultural Foundation of Junction City and has free admission and entertainment. The Scandinavian Festival takes place Thursday-Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 10am-8pm, though the entertainment goes into the evening with a pageant and community dance! Each day of the Festival honors a Scandinavian country. The order for this year is Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The Festival hosts roughly a hundred vendors and supports many local nonprofits and youth programs. The program schedule and event details will be found on the blog.
