<p><b><u><font face="Verdana">The Republic of Cyprus and the OPCW</font></u></b>

<p>
<font size="2" face="Verdana">The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of the Netherlands is also the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) which is based in The
Hague. Cyprus is a staunch supporter of the OPCW since its outset and fully ascribes to the vision for a world free of chemical weapons. The Republic of Cyprus signed the </font>
<b><font size="2" face="Verdana">Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction</font></b>
<font size="2" face="Verdana"> on 13/1/1993, which entered into force in Cyprus on 27/09/1998. </font>
</p>
<p>
<font size="2" face="Verdana">The Republic of Cyprus participates in the OPCW’s Conference of States Parties and follows the work of the OPCW Executive Council, as well as other meetings and activities of the Organisation. The National
Authority for the implementation of the Convention in Cyprus is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. </font>
</p>
<p>
<font size="2" face="Verdana">The Republic of Cyprus actively contributed to the collective multilateral mission to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons, following United Nations Security Council Resolution 2118 (2013). Cyprus served as the
host country of the support base of the OPCW-UN Joint Mission, and offered infrastructure and facilities to other States which participated to the destruction of the Syria’ s chemical weapons. </font>
</p>
<p>
<font size="2" face="Verdana">The Republic of Cyprus is a State of the Asian Region of the Organization since 1998. In May 2013, it successfully hosted the OPCW 11th Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties in Asia.
