Here is this week’s Daily News high school football rankings, which include the
team’s rank, record, last week’s ranking and its next game.

DAILY NEWS TOP 15

1. Chaminade (2-0): There’s a new sheriff in town. The Eagles start the season
with two quality wins, the most recent coming over JSerra in epic comeback
fashion. Chaminade scored 24 unanswered points, sparked by backup quarterback
Seth Shigg to win 24-21.

Last week: No. 3 | Next: at Birmingham Charter, Friday

2. Oaks Christian (1-1): Devin Tate, Johnny Thompson and the Lions defense
dominated Sierra Canyon Friday night, serving up a revengeful 38-21 drumming on
the same night the Trailblazers unveiled their new stadium.

Last week: No. 4 | Next: vs. Colorado Regis Jesuit in Honor Bowl (San Diego),
Saturday

3. Simi Valley (2-0): The Pioneers are unbeaten but drop in the rankings after
playing Ventura (49-3) and at Palmdale Knight (51-0) the first two weeks. The
schedule doesn’t get any tougher until Week 3 at Saugus.

Last week: No. 2 | Next: at Royal, Friday

4. Sierra Canyon (0-2): The Trailblazers start 0-2 for the first time since
2018, but the way they lost to Oaks Christian Friday night makes it hard to
believe frustration isn’t setting in. The team’s schedule doesn’t help much,
either. Sierra Canyon travels to Nevada this week before hosting Mission Viejo
next week.

Last week: No. 1 | Next: at Green Valley (Nevada), Friday

5. West Ranch (2-0): Ryan Staub strikes again. He threw five touchdowns in the
first half of the team’s 51-0 win over Buena, giving him 10 in two games. The
Wildcats stay in the top five heading into next week.

Last week: No. 4 | Next: vs. Antelope Valley, Thursday

6. Alemany (1-1): The Warriors relied on last year’s winning recipe: stout
defense and a running game. Alemany held off a very good San Diego Lincoln team
to win 14-7. Now it has two weeks off before playing Mission Viejo on Sept. 16.

Last week: No. 10 | Next: at Mission Viejo, Sept. 16

7. St. Francis (1-1): The Golden Knights better fix their defense, and fast. St.
Francis edged Mira Costa 52-48 thanks to quarterback Jack Jacob’s 384 yards
passing and five touchdowns, but giving up over 100 points in two games is not a
good trend.

Last week: No. 6 | Next: at Long Beach Millikan, Friday

8. Notre Dame (2-0): The Knights are off to a hot start after beating Crespi and
Birmingham, which are a combined 0-4. But the lopsided scoreboard is promising,
because that’s how it should be for a Mission League team. Brandon Bryant is
emerging as Notre Dame’s top player on defense. He has a team-leading 18 tackles
in two games.

Last week: No. 7 | Next: vs. Valencia, Friday

9. Saugus (2-0): The Centurions took care of business in their home opener,
taking down Moorpark 43-13. Jake Viger played running back, linebacker, kicker
and punter in the game.

Last week: No. 8 | Next: at Camarillo, Friday

10. Valencia (1-1): The Vikings routed Quartz Hill 46-23 at home. Wide receiver
Brandon Boateng had seven catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Last week: No. 11 | Next: at Notre Dame, Friday

11. Newbury Park (2-0): The Panthers are creeping closer to the top 10. Freshman
quarterback Brady Smigiel was at it again. He threw for 231 yards and four
touchdowns in one half to anchor Newbury Park’s 51-0 win over El Camino Real.

Last week: No. 14 | Next: at Crespi

12. Oak Park (2-0): The Eagles move into the Daily News top 15 after taking down
previously-ranked No. 12 Calabasas, 23-22. Rowan Heidt ran for 106 yards on 28
carries and QB Kaydn Parr threw two touchdowns.

Last week: Unranked | Next: at Brentwood, Friday

13. Highland (1-1): The Bulldogs fell to Oak Hills of Hesperia, but will look to
bounce back at home this week.

Last week: No. 9 | Next: vs. Mission Hills, Friday

15. Royal (2-0): The Highlanders stay at No. 15 after beating up-start program
Castaic 41-20 at home. Royal needs to be on its A game when Simi Valley comes to
its campus on Friday night.
