Old and New Testament in 3,333 images Despair, bliss, gratitude, love and hope.
When he converted the written text of the Bible into a visual narrative, the
artist experienced various emotional states. He pored over the words and used
different translations in order to aid his understanding.
This unique piece of art is the only visual narrative of the complete Bible. It
was named after the Stuttgart-based artist Willy Wiedmann (1929-2013). For 16
years, he worked on the Leporello, which is almost a mile (1,2 km) long.
Wiedmann did not have the opportunity to publish his work. Therefore, he buried
his dream and the Bible in the attic of his gallery. Here his son, Martin
Wiedmann, discovered it after his father’s death. Since 2015, the Wiedmann Bible
is on its way to fulfill its mission: to share the Bible with everyone and to
visually engage people with it, thus giving them a new way to access and
understand it.

* GENESIS
The book of Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament and Moses. It
tells the story of creation, how God created the heavens and the earth, and
everything in it. It tells of Adam and Eve; the fall of Man; Cain and Abel,
Noah and his ark, which he built for humans and animals so they might escape
the Flood. It tells of the Tower of Babel, in which humanity built a tower
that reached into the heavens to put themselves in God’s place. As a result,
God scattered humankind throughout the world and confused their languages.
Genesis tells of God’s covenant with Abraham, and how the 12 tribes of Israel
arose.
* EXODUS
Exodus is the second book of Moses. It tells the story of his birth, the
ever-growing conflicts between Egypt and the Israelites, and the exodus from
Egypt. Moses receives the order from God to lead the people of Israel out of
slavery and into the Promised Land, Canaan. The Egyptians only let them go
after the Lord sends the ten plagues. On the way to Canaan, Moses leads the
people through the Red Sea, which he parts with God’s help and saves Israel
from its pursuers. In the desert, on Mount Sinai, Moses receives the ten
commandments written on two stone tablets. He destroys these when he comes
back to find the people of Israel have built a golden calf as an idol. Moses
destroys the tablets and the calf in his rage, asks God for forgiveness, and
receives new tablets as well as instructions for the people.
* LEVITICUS
The book of Leviticus consists of 106 paintings in the Wiedmann Bible. In
these, Wiedmann presents the sacrificial laws, such as those surrounding
food, peace, or sin offerings, describes purity laws, such as which animals
are clean or unclean, and introduces the ministry of the priesthood. He also
portrays the laws of God for large festivals and everyday life. These
include, for example, that humanity must work for six days and rest on the
seventh.
* NUMBERS
Numbers, the fourth book of Moses, tells the story of how the people of
Israel wandered through the desert, prepared to enter the promised land,
sinned and were punished by God, and prepared to enter again. The paintings
show the creation of a new people and a new generation that would eventually
inherit the land of Canaan. Numbers also tells of the expulsion and
extermination of the old inhabitants, as well as the descendants of Moses,
who were not allowed to enter the land.
* DEUTERONOMY
Deuteronomy is the fifth and last book of Moses and can be translated as
"second law." It is written in the form of a farewell address by Moses to the
Israelites before they entered the Promised Land, Caanan. The book repeats
the ten commandments and the story of the journey the Israelites made through
the desert. The book ends with Moses's death.
* JOSHUA / JUDGES / RUTH
"Joshua leads the Israelites into the Promised Land, conquers, and divides
it. Judges tells of Israel's military and moral failure and Israel's rescue
by the judges. Ruth shows how three people remain faithful to God while their
society is collapsing. Willy Wiedmann summarized these books into one. "
* SAMUEL
First Samuel records the life of Israel's last judge, Samuel. It describes
Saul's reign and decline and Israel's choice of King David. Second Samuel
records the history of David's reign as an ideal leader of an imperfect
kingdom. Willy Wiedmann combined these books into one.
* KINGS
First Kings begins with the united kingdom of Israel under the wise King
Solomon. Israel divides into two kingdoms. Elijah's ministry begins. Second
Kings begins with Elisha's ministry and ends with Isreal exiled to Assyria
and Judah exiled to Babylon. Willy Wiedmann combined these two books.
* ESRA / NEHEMIAH
Ezra tells of the Jewish peoples' return to Israel after the Babylonian
exile. They begin to rebuild the Temple and their faith in God. Nehemiah
leads the people to rebuild Jerusalem's wall and establishes policies. Willy
Wiedmann combined these books into one.
* TOBIT / JUDITH / ESTHER
"Tobit, Judith, and Esther are books that deal with individual heroes or
heroines who act according to God's will and bring about the salvation of the
Jewish nation and God's blessings on his or her family. Willy Wiedmann
combined these books into one. "
* JYOB
Job demonstrates God's sovereignty and the meaning of true faith amid testing
and suffering. Job is a discussion between Job, his three friends, and Elihu
regarding why the righteous suffer. They ponder the relation between sin and
suffering. God ultimately answers Job and restores him.
* PSALTER (PART 1)
Psalms is a collection of hymns, songs, laments, petitions and poetry written
to express praise, worship, forgiveness, thankfulness, trust, and confession
to God. There were written between the time of Moses and the Babylonian
captivity by numerous authors, including David.

the honor of marriage and the reward of righteousness.
* JESUS: SON OF SIRACH
The Book of Sirach, also called the Wisdom of Sirach, is a canonical Book of
Wisdom. It is also known as the Book of Ecclesiasticus or Ben Sira and is a
Jewish work of ethical teachings. It was written by the Jewish scribe Ben
Sira of Jerusalem.
* PROPHETS (PART 1)
Prophesies of Amos, Hosea, Micha, Isaiah, Zephaniah, Nahum, Habakkuk,
Jeremiah, Obadja, Ezekiel, Daniel, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Joel, and
Jona, are featured here, as is the Book of Baruch. The prophets foretold
future events and stood as mouthpieces for God.

Volkszählung vorbereitet. Wegen seiner Sünden kann Israel erst nicht dorthin,
sondern zieht durch die Wüste und beschwert sich über Gott. Es endet mit der
2. Volkszählung und dem Aufenthalt der Israeliten in der Moab-Ebene.
* DEUTERONOMIUM
Deuteronomium wurde als Abschiedsrede von Mose an die Israeliten geschrieben,
bevor sie das Gelobte Land betraten. Mose erinnert sie an die Zehn Gebote und
was Gott für sie getan hat. Er wiederholt die Grundsätze für ein
gottesfürchtiges Leben und ruft dazu auf, Gott treu zu sein.
* JOSUA / RICHTER / RUTH
Josua führt die Israeliten in das Gelobte Land, erobert und teilt es. Richter
erzählt von Israels militärischem und moralischem Versagen und Israels
Rettung durch die Richter. Ruth zeigt, wie drei Menschen Gott treu bleiben.

* SAMUEL
1. Samuel schildert das Leben des letzten Richters Israels, Samuel. Es
beschreibt Sauls Herrschaft und Niedergang, sowie Israels Wahl von König
David. 2. Samuel zeichnet die Geschichte von David als Führer eines
unvollkommenen Königreichs auf. Willy Wiedmann hat die Bücher zu einem

* KÖNIGE
1. Könige beginnt mit dem vereinten Königreich Israel unter dem weisen König
Salomo. Israel teilt sich dann in zwei Königreiche und Elias Dienst beginnt.
2. Könige beginnt mit Elisas Dienst. Es endet damit, daß Isreal nach Assyrien
und Juda nach Babylon verbannt wird.
* EZRA / NEHEMIA
Esra erzählt von der Rückkehr des jüdischen Volkes nach Israel aus dem
babylonischen Exil. Den Tempel und der Glaube an Gott werden wieder
aufgebaut. Nehemia führt das Volk zum Wiederaufbau der Mauer Jerusalems und
legt Richtlinien fest. Willy Wiedmann hat diese Bücher zu einem

* TOBIT / JUDIT / ESTER
Die Bücher von Tobit, Judit und Ester befassen sich jeweils mit einem dieser
drei Helden oder Heldinnen, die nach Gottes Willen handelten und dadurch die
Rettung der jüdischen Nation erreichten und Gottes Segen für ihre Familien
erhielten.
* HIOB
Hiob demonstriert Gottes Souveränität und die Bedeutung des wahren Glaubens
inmitten von Prüfungen und Leiden. Das Buch Hiob ist eine Diskussion zwischen
Hiob, seinen drei Freunden und Elihu darüber, warum die Gerechten leiden
müssen. Alle denken über die Beziehung zwischen Sünde und Leiden nach.
