I’m currently a senior at Dreher High School in Columbia, South Carolina. I am an equestrian who has focused on the hunter/jumper/equitation rings for about ten years. I do my best to balance the demands of my challenging classes at school and the maintenance and training needs of my green horses. That work doesn’t leave much time for other activities, but I have enjoyed being a part of the National Honor Society at school and being a part of the South Carolina Hunter Jumper Association’s junior committee. I have also been a member of the Tally Ho IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team for the past several years. I love getting the chance to ride different horses and I enjoy spending time with my friends and other equestrians. Riding can be a pretty individual sport, so being a part of a team and having the chance to feel more connected to the sport and to my equestrian community through IEA has been wonderful! Although I love to compete, I am most proud of the behind-the-scenes work that I do that helps my horses get to the show ring. Long hours spent cleaning stalls and water buckets flow into even longer hours grooming and training at home. I also enjoy helping my Mom with our small family horse/pony business. In helping to train and then lease or sell our ponies and horses over the years, I’ve learned a lot about how challenging the equestrian industry (and owning a business) can be in addition to learning how to select, train, and market our animals. This small family business has allowed me to continue to afford to train and show and has also allowed me a very personal look into how a small business operates. I am so grateful for the opportunities that I’ve been given to catch-ride for my trainers and other professionals on both the local and A circuits. These opportunities have led to working student and grooming positions that have really helped my overall horsemanship and given me an entirely new level of appreciation for all the hard-working trainers, grooms and farm staff who make having horses possible. .02 ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2022 2021 2020 2019 2018 2017 Qualified for 2023 IEA Regionals in Varsity Open Flat and Over fences Overall PSJ Champion Junior Hunters and Reserve Champion 15-17 Equitation Overall NCHJA 'C' Champion Junior Hunters and Reserve Champion 15-17 Equitation Overall BRHJA Champion Junior Hunters and 15-17 Equitation Overall SCHJA Palmetto Circuit Champion Junior Hunters and 15-17 Equitation Won the South Carolina Hunter Jumper Association Palmetto Junior Medal Finals Won the Progressive Show Jumping Junior Medal Finals Nominated for SCHJA Best Child Rider on a Horse Qualified for 2022 USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Finals Participated in the Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session Qualified for SCHJA Governor's Cup Finals Placed 1st at IEA Regionals in the Open Flat division Qualified and competed at IEA Zones in the Open Flat division Champion for 2021 in the 15-17 equitation division for the North Carolina Hunter Jumper Association 2021 BRHJA Year End 15-17 Equitation Reserve Champion Won Fourth Place in the Practicum Section of the 2021 USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge; awarded Fourth Place OVERALL in the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Reserve Champion for 2021 in the 15-17 equitation division for the South Carolina Hunter Jumper Association Third place overall for 2021 in the Palmetto Junior Medal Standings Fourth place overall for 2021 SCHJA year end in the Children’s Hunters with Dejavu de Laume Fifth place overall for 2021 SCHJA year end for the Green Hunter division with Havana Sixth place in the Child/Adult Jumpers with Havana Reserve Champion for 2021 in the 15-17 age group equitation division for the Camden Hunter Jumper Circuit year end awards Third place winner for the 2021 Mary Ann Parmelee Excellence in Equitation Finals Sixth Place Winner of the PSJ 2021 Junior Medal Finals 2021 Year End Third Place Winner for the PSJ 15-17 age group equitation division Third Place Year-End Winner for the Children’s Hunter division USHJA National Finalist - Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Qualified for PSJ, SCHJA and BRHJA Junior Medal Finals Zone 4 IEA Horsemanship Test Winner - 3rd Place Zone 4 Regional High Point Award Winner - Over Fences Qualified for IEA Regionals in the over fences and flat sections, and rode for the Tally Ho IEA team in both the over fences and flat team competitions 2020 12th Place overall winner nationally in the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge 2019-2020 Zone 4 IEA Horsemanship Test Winner-5th Place.
