Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital is a nationally recognized cardiac care
center and the premier cardiovascular program in Acadiana, with consistently
high patient satisfaction ratings. Heart Hospital is a one-of-a-kind Louisiana
heart specialty hospital committed to raising the bar for cardiac care, and is
changing the way cardiovascular care is provided.

We are bringing patient-focused cardiac care to Acadiana through our
cardiologists, cardiovascular/thoracic surgeons, and vascular surgeons. Our
medical advances have enabled us to help thousands of patients with existing

by being on the cutting edge and bringing the most advanced medical technologies
to our community.


 * Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital is the first in Lafayette to offer an
   innovative new treatment for patients at risk for stroke due to blockages in
   the neck arteries known as carotid artery disease. The minimally invasive
   procedure, called TransCarotid Artery Revascularization or TCAR utilizes a
   new FDA-approved neuroprotection system that temporarily reverses blood flow
   in the artery during the procedure.  Dangerous bits of plaque and blood clots
   that could dislodge and otherwise travel to the brain and cause a stroke are
   safely diverted away while a dedicated transcarotid stent is inserted to open
   and stabilize the blockage.


 * Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital was the first hospital in Acadiana to
   offer the Micra pacemaker. The Micra is about the size of a large vitamin
   pill, but capable of regulating heartbeats just like its bigger cousins. The
   true breakthrough, though, is where it’s placed. Instead of being implanted
   under the skin through a chest incision and attached to the heart by leads
   like a traditional pacemaker, the Micra is threaded through the femoral vein
   and implanted directly into the heart chamber, reducing the risk of infection
   from the initial procedure and implanted leads in the future. Another
   advantage is the shorter recovery time of three to five days as compared to
   about six weeks.


 * TAVR is the acronym for a revolutionary cardiac valve procedure called
   Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and is a minimally invasive treatment
   for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are not eligible for traditional
   open-heart surgery. This is a revolutionary valve replacement process and
   another Acadiana first.  Over 200 patient lives have changed for the better
   through TAVR, and all here at home in Acadiana.  Unlike aortic valve
   replacement performed by traditional open heart surgery, TAVR is a
   less-invasive technology that allows you to replace a diseased aortic heart
   valve while the heart is still beating.  Replacing the aortic valve during a
   TAVR procedure means an implantable valve is inserted through a catheter and
   placed within the diseased aortic valve. TAVR is a great heart valve
   replacement option with a shorter recovery time for the patient to resume
   everyday activities.


 * Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CV STAT® is a one-call emergency
   referral and transport system for cardiac patients who require a higher level
   of cardiac care from a participating hospital. We are always one step ahead
   of your arrival, which ensures that we are fully prepared for emergency
   testing and treatment the moment emergency transport arrives on site. This
   one-call system uses proven streamlined processes to deliver a higher level
   of cardiac care to the patients of outlying communities and surrounding
   parishes in Acadiana.


 * Our Lady of Lourdes completed the first cardiovascular convergent procedure
   in Acadiana. Convergent is a two-part, collaborative procedure, with an
   Electrophysiologist and Cardiac Surgeon used to treat aggressive Atrial
   Fibrillation. While the Convergent procedure is new to this area, the
   addition of a Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) closure using robotic surgery is a
   game changer for patients and only performed at Lourdes.  The robotic closure
   of the LAA is done through the patient’s chest, using small minimally
   invasive incisions. The closure, or clip, can reduce a patient’s risk of
   stroke and may eliminate the need to take blood-thinning medication.

provided. The cardiac program is designed, equipped and staffed to keep your
heart healthy and provide treatment when it is not.




KNOW THE SIGNS OF A HEART ATTACK

Around 85% of heart damage occurs within the first two hours of a heart attack,
so recognizing heart attack symptoms and acting fast is critical. Common
symptoms include:

 * Chest pain or discomfort, like pressure, squeezing, burning, aching or
   tightness
 * Sweating or lightheadedness
 * Pain that travels down your arm(s)
 * Fatigue and/or anxiety
 * Feeling of fullness
 * Shortness of breath
 * Heart attack symptoms in women can vary from those in men, and may be harder
   to recognize, including jaw and back pain, as well as nausea and other
   flu-like symptoms. And, while more than half of patients experience warning
   signs, heart attacks can also strike without notice.


The good news? 80% of heart-related events can be prevented when you know and
control your risk factors.
