24: Redemption is a television film based on the series 24. Of the film were
released to DVD, the original broadcast version and an extended directors cut.

Set 18 months where Season 6 of '24' left off, former government agent Jack
Bauer is in a self-imposed exile in the fictitious African country of Sangala
where he hopes to escape from a U.S. Investigation of him for his past methods,
and to run from his past. Bauer works at a mission school for orphaned children
run by his friend Carl Benton. The country is at the mercy of a rogue warlord
general named Juma who is plotting a coup to overthrow the government and his
right-hand man Colonel Dubaku, is abducting orphan boys and forcibly recruiting
them into Juma's army.
Bauer and Benton must work together to save the dozen or so boys and try to get
them out of the country before Juma takes over. Meanwhile in Washington D.C., it
is Inauguration Day where the outgoing President Noah Daniels is handing over
the presidency to the first female president Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones).
Hearing about the coup, Daniels wants to evacuate the country before it falls to
the rogue general, while. '24:Redemption' is a movie version of the much loved
TV series. It picks up the story with Jack in Africa, hiding from the Government
who wants to bring him in and charge him with his use of torture on suspects.
While in Africa Jacks hooks up (not in that way) with an old colleague (played
by Robert Carlyle from that movie about the guys who become strippers) who is
running a shelter to help young men and protect them from rebels who want to
recruit them for their armies. As normally happens, trouble finds Jack and soon
the lives of his friend and the boys are under threat. Once again, Jack can't
turn his back on baddies and helping victims, so he gets involved. Will he be
redeemed?
Will he risk all to save the innocent? See it to find out. Not bad, but any '24'
missing Chloe, Tony and Edgar is going to be up against it. Don't think the
format really worked for the show, as it obviously all happened a bit quick.
Keifer really seemed to mail it in too. It's a bridge to the next series, which
will see Jack on trial.
I caught the preview on the special features and it looks OK, will probably give
it a go.

average of 405,000 viewers, nearly triple the regular number of viewers for the

's acting was generally praised for showing more of a human side to. The film
garnered widespread critical acclaim reviews from film critics.

Stanley of gave the film a positive review, stating that Redemption is 'a more
sober, stripped-down version of 24, and that's refreshing,' and that it was the
first time a terrorist threat did not take place in Southern California, and the

also said that a two-hour version of 24 proves that downsizing isn't always a
bad thing.
Mary McNamara of praised the film, acknowledging the producers taking on board
the criticism and moral issues regarding the use of torture, and stated that a
group of innocent young children running for their lives 'instantly ratchets up
a story's emotional level.' Brian Zoromski of rated it 'good', 7.5 out of a
possible 10. Zoromski stated that the purpose of Redemption was to allow the
introduction of new characters for the seventh season. He further praised the
action scenes involving Bauer on his own, stating it as a 'sort of in Africa,'
and called the change of setting from Los Angeles a 'refreshing change of pace'.
However, Zormski criticized the film for containing cludge dialogue and bland
scenes, but suggested that it makes up for it with the action scenes and
emotional scenes involving Bauer, allowing Sutherland to show his acting range.
Oscar Dah; of stated that the film should make up for the critics' poor outing
of the sixth season, and has said that the film works wonderfully as the start
of the seventh season, and praised Robert Carlyle's performance.
In addition, some reviews had mixed responses. Simon Brew of Den of Geek rated
Redemption 3 out of 5 stars, praising it for showing a more human side of Bauer,

season six and seven. However, Brew was critical that it plays little to no
havoc with the world of 24, and that it is lacking at times in urgency. Gerard
Gilbert of stated that the introduction of Jonas Hodges was promising, and
praised John Voight's acting, as well as stating that the character is the one
most to look forward to in the seventh season. Matthew Gilbert of gave the film
a negative review, giving it a 2 out of 10, calling it 'un-fun', and stating
that Bauer's character has not changed at all from past seasons, and asking,
'When does a rogue hero Bauer become a tired joke? Based on this un-fun movie, I
