Los Angeles Police Captain Kelly Muniz described the incident: “The victim was sitting at a table eating with a female witness when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect then brandished a firearm and demanded his property. The suspect then fired multiple rounds and then appears to remove some property, to what extent we don’t know at this time.” A TMZ source suggested PnB was explicitly targeted as no one else in the restaurant was assaulted. PnB Rock leaves behind his girlfriend, two daughters, mother, and siblings. PNB LIFE ADOPTED A LIFE OF CRIME AFTER THE DEATHS OF HIS FATHER AND UNCLE Rakim Hasheem Allen was born on 9th December 1991, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Raymond and Vivian Allen. Raymond and Vivian named PnB after MC Rakim of the rap duo Eric B. & Rakim. Allen adopted the name PnB from Pastorius and Baynton, a street corner in Philly’s Germantown neighborhood. Struggling to provide for his family, Rakim’s father became a criminal. He passed away in 1994 due to a gang feud, placing the burden of raising five siblings on Rakim’s mother. PnB spent most of his early life in homeless shelters. “I ain’t have everything that I wanted, but I was the class clown,” Rakim told Fader. “I was funny. I had all the girls. I was cool.” PnB relied on guidance from his uncle, whom he considered a father figure. At 15, Rakim dropped out of school following his uncle’s murder. “I was selling drugs, I probably robbed a few people here or there,” PnB said. Four years later, a court sentenced Rakim to nearly three years in prison. PnB hadn’t shown interest in music before his prison sentence. However, in prison, he started writing songs about his tough childhood. Following his release, he gained popularity by posting singing videos on social media and releasing two mixtapes. A probation violation sent him back to prison for four months, during which people started a petition dubbed #FreePnBRock. PnB talked to Fader about the unfortunate truths behind his early music: “People were dying, people were getting killed by cops. If I listen to that song [My City Needs Something], I’ll cry.” PNB HAD VOWED TO BE MORE CAREFUL FOLLOWING HIS BROTHER’S MURDER “Somebody fucking killed me brother,” PnB Rock tweeted in June 2016. “This shit ain’t right.” He told Complex in September 2017: “There was five of us, but now there’s four of us.” PnB referenced his brother’s death in an early September 2022 interview with DJ Akademiks. Rakim said he’d become more careful since his brothers’ murder, avoiding places like strip clubs and nightclubs where he stood a higher chance of getting robbed. “I’m not going to put myself in those situations because I know what happens in those situations,” PnB said. The rapper also talked about the brazen nature of criminals in Los Angeles, saying: “Where I’m from, we like sneaky criminals. In LA, it’s like they bold. Some of them… some of them might just go crazy.” Allen said a group of people had followed him, his girlfriend, and their child in Los Angeles. “And I’m like, I’m with my peoples, I’m with my daughter, I’m with my girl, and I’m thinking, why you talking ’bout this gangster shit with this around,” he said.
