WHAT'S HAPPENING IN WASHINGTON

Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) celebrates 50th anniversary

Since 1974, this federal program has helped families thrive by providing
nutritious food, education, and resources. WIC serves 200,000 Washingtonians
including nearly half of all babies born, 33% of pregnant people, and 25% of
kids under the age of 5.

Governor Inslee recognizes outstanding state agency leaders in annual awards
ceremony

The 2024 Governor’s Outstanding Leadership Awards celebrated 23 honorees and
their contributions and achievements during the 2023 calendar year.

Washington State Library returns to normal operating hours

The Library is now open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15-October 15

Celebrate the vibrant heritage of the Hispanic and Latinx communities, Hispanic
values, and the economic power that Latinos bring to our state during National
Hispanic Heritage Month.

Office of the Attorney General plans to award $2 million to fund gun violence
prevention programs

All law enforcement agencies in the state seeking funds to support programs
intended to reduce gun violence, promote firearms safety, and help victims of
gun violence are encouraged to apply. Applications are due October 31.
