About the course
The Biosciences are recognised as being amongst the most fertile technological
areas
for giving rise for commercialisation opportunities for SME start-ups through to
global
pharma companies - with applications spanning healthcare through to
environmental
management and agri-food. Taught by Professor Lisa Hall and Professor Seamus
Higson, this short on-line course is designed to provide a primer for the
business of commercialising opportunities from the Biosciences – with
consideration of intellectual property and its protection, business plans,
raising finance and commercial strategies for SMEs through to large corporate
organisations.

By the end of this 8-week course, your team will be able to:

 * Identify potential bioscience advancements from the
pharmaceutical, biomedical and wellness devices, and agri-biotechnology
   sectors.
 * Recognise new and emerging trends and evaluate them for their potential
   impact and commercial opportunities.
 * Assess potential opportunities based on their technical content, risk-reward
ratio and their ability to meet unmet functional needs.
 * Assess the potential markets and identify opportunities for new or
   existing bioscience advancements.
 * Examine the process creating a business plan, with consideration of
   intellectual
property protection, angel investors and/or venture capital
fundraising, market exploitation and income streams − along with business
   development
   plans and exit routes.
 * Produce an example business plan.
