Gold Fig makes it easy to find the things that matter and save your team time.ads via Carbon WELCOME Hi, I'm Andreas Gohr and splitbrain.org is my website. They still use DVI instead of HDMI but otherwise they are perfectly fine monitors. That is until yesterday, when one of them suddenly turned off and refused to show any sign of life.… ▶ Noise Cancelling Headphones compared While the pandemic isn't over, it seems to have become somewhat manageable for now thanks to vaccines. And that means that occasional office commutes become more common again. And commutes need headphones. My old Philips Bluetooth headphones are dissolving, so I need a new pair. And why not go a little fancier and have Active Noise Cancelling (ANC), too?… ▶ Casa Hedgehog A while ago I took part in a study that observed wild animals in the city. We got a automatic camera for a couple of months and could see what animals are walking through our garden at night. I thought I had downloaded the best photos but I cannot find them anymore. I also don't really remember when that happened. Sometime in the blur of the pandemic… ▶ * Something Weird Is Happening on Facebook – Political Orphans — Cambridge Analytica 2.0 * Facebook is other people * Kids who grew up with search engines could change STEM education forever - The Verge — kids these days 🙄 * Haikei — Background SVG generator * Github repo plashchynski/awesome-genetics * Github repo cicnavi/oidc-client-php * SVG Repo - Free SVG Vectors and Icons * OpenMoji * No More Inflammatory Jargon: Change Blacklist To Blocklist | AdExchanger * illlustrations - open source illustrations kit Humidity Control with Home Assistant Our basement tends to be humid. Too much humidity is bad. So regularly airing it is important. But when is the best time to open a window? Answering this question is surprisingly complicated. Generally speaking you want to exchange humid air inside with less humid air from outside. Now all you need to know is the humidity inside and outside - question answered. Right? Well… ▶ * 3D Design published: ESP32 DevKit V4 Case (OpenScad) — This is a simple case for a ESP32 developer board. It should be easy to customize or extend. Home Assistant again Ever since we moved into the house, my old Home Assistant setup lay dormant. My old port forwardings in the router were missing, so it was unreachable, many of the set up devices did not exist anymore and it was in a really bad state overall.… ▶ * Github repo PoppyPop/homeassistant_ecowitt * Github repo fluffykraken/bvg-sensor * Github repo custom-components/ble_monitor * Github repo pvvx/ATC_MiThermometer * Github repo gregnau/attiny-weather-station * DIY Funk-Wetterstation mit DHT22, ATtiny85 und RadioHead | cryCode.de * Programming ATtiny85 with Arduino Uno - Arduino Project Hub * Low cost, low power 6uA garden 433Mhz sensor with temperature, humidity ,hygrometer and voltage * Read Your Main Power Electricity Meter (ESP8266, WiFi, MQTT and Openhab) : 6 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables * (digitalen) Stromzähler mit ESP8266 auslesen - Smarthome Doku Adam Savage Worklight Alternative Ever since I saw Adam Savage's custom workbench LED lamps, I wanted something similar. And like anyone else, I am super annoyed by the little LR44 button cell that powers them. Or rather does not, because it seems to be always dead. So for the last years I mostly used my old analog calipers. And once you learn how to read their sub-millimeter measurement, they are pretty awesome.… ▶ * Github repo nwtgck/piping-server * Guess the Year game. * Average number of languages spoken by the EU population — Italians and Greeks, for instance, both speak an average of 1.8 languages, but the median is 1 for Italy and 2 for Greece. This is because the typical Italian speaks one language, but those who speak a second language speak in fact usually 3 or 4 languages overall (raising the average), whereas most Greeks speak 2 languages, but few of them speak 3 or 4. Vaccinated Today I got my first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. This of course makes me incredibly happy. So much that I was giggling to myself on my drive home. However, that I got this shot today is also another symptom of how totally fucked up Germany's handling of the pandemic is.… ▶ * Why Generation X will save the web — Interesting analysis but I don't see how gen-x will save anything. Workbench Upgrades I built my main workbench nearly a year ago. It remains the most important part of my workshop and I keep improving it. I already blogged about adding a router table and a disk sander. This blog post is about a few more upgrades I did in the last months. Table Saw Fence Update… ▶ Workbench Storage A workshop needs storage. For tools, materials, accessories and doodads. I'm still very happy with my IKEA Trofast system, but it has only three sizes of containers. Sometimes you need something smaller. Or something much smaller. And sometimes something bigger.… ▶ Older Posts are available in the Blog Archive. Keep up to date with the RSS Feed. 2001-2021 © Andreas Gohr Imprint/Impressum
