KAZAKHSTAN - LANGUAGES

The official language, Kazakh , is spoken by some 40% of the population. Russian
is spoken by most of the remaining inhabitants. There are also speakers of
German , Uyghur and Romani .

KAZAKHSTAN - PERSONAL NAMES AND FORMS OF ADDRESS

Some people, including the Russian minority, continue to use Russian patronymic
names and also to use Russian forms of address.

Others use a localized patronymic form. The string -uly (including the hyphen)
is added to a given name to indicate “son of” and -kyzy is added to indicate
“daughter of”. Men who have been to Mecca on a pilgrimage have Kajy written
after their given name.

In the local vernacular, “Mr” is Myrza and “Mrs” or “Miss” is Bike.

   Tables of names can be acquired: given names , surnames/family names , family name prefixes , forms of address , job titles

KAZAKHSTAN - ADDRESS FORMATS

   Note: This section last updated 19th August 2019

Kazakh addresses are formatted differently depending on whether the address is
written in Cyrillic or Latin script. In Latin script they are formatted:

   Addressee
   Thoroughfare name[, ]Building information{, Sub-building information}
   POSTAL CODE{, }SETTLEMENT
   {Rayon}
   {OBLAST}

The rayon and oblast names are often included in addresses in rural areas.

In Cyrillic script this is usually reversed:

   {OBLAST}
   {Rayon}
   POSTAL CODE{, }SETTLEMENT
   Thoroughfare name[, ]Building information{, Sub-building information}
   Addressee

For example:

   Batyrov Serik Erlanovich
   ulica Ryskulbekov, dom 16, kv 224
   Z00Y5M7, g. NUR-SULTAN

   Batyrov Serik Erlanovich
   ulica Shieli, dom 15
   L16T0H2, selo ABAY
   Karasayskiy raion
   ALMATINSKIY OBLAST

   Акмолинская область
   Z10B0P5, г. Нур-Султан
   ул. 150 лет Абая, д. 12/1

   Акмолинская область
   Ерейментауский район
   C37D0H5, с. Ерейментау
   ул. Ш.Валиханова, д. 39

   A table containing information about the relevant position of elements within address blocks can be acquired

KAZAKHSTAN - POSTAL CODES

   Note: This section last updated 17th April 2020

Kazakhstan introduced a new seven-character postal code (pochtovye indeksy)
system in 2016 to replace its six-digit (999999) code that had been in use since
1997. The new code has seven alpha-numeric characters (for example; D03K5Y2) and
each code is intended to represent a single building. The new system is
currently working in parallel with the old system, as many people continue to
use the 6-digit codes.

The codes are not randomly assigned to buildings – neighbouring buildings get
related codes. For example:

Old codes: The first two digits represent a region, the first four a rayon.

   Metadata containing postal code formatting rules, exceptions and regular expressions can be acquired
