Miller has just announced a suite of measures aimed at capping the number of temporary residents in Canada at 5 percent of the population over the next three years, a 20 percent drop on current levels. This follows an explosion of temporary foreign workers and international students, which increased the country’s population at the fastest rate since the 1950s and contributed to the rising cost of shelter. Miller has admitted the situation is “a mess”. He said that measures like waiving restrictions on international students working off-campus and increasing the percentage of foreign workers businesses are allowed to hire made sense in 2022, when there were nearly a million job vacancies. 0 seconds of 23 minutes, 30 secondsVolume 90% Press shift question mark to access a list of keyboard shortcuts Keyboard ShortcutsEnabledDisabled Shortcuts Open/Close/ or ? BAKES NOSTALGIA INTO ITS SPRINGTIME TREATS Whether or not you celebrate Easter, the advent of spring is as good a time as any to treat yourself to something sweet. Calgary has seen several new bakeshops crop up over the last year or so. Some are the result of baking enthusiasts taking a pandemic-era “life’s too short” attitude by shifting into a job that lets them exercise their passion for batter and dough, while others are expansions of existing bakeries, with proprietors more than happy to serve a growing population looking to find moments of joy in a cream puff or slice of cake. 1 day ago Life More life stories > News Releases Business Wire Promoted By Business Wire More News Releases > News Releases Newsfile Promoted By Newsfile More News Releases > News Releases GlobeNewswire Promoted By GlobeNewswire More News Releases > Advertisement 6 Stories continue below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. MP GENUIS: BILL S-210: PROTECTING OUR KIDS Two weeks ago, I hosted a townhall at my constituency office regarding Bill S-210, an act to restrict young persons’ online access to sexually explicit material. The Liberals response to this issue has been to put forward Bill C-63, which purports to be an all-encompassing response to various kinds of “online harms”. C-63, however, does nothing to protect minors from accessing pornography, and has been roundly criticized for furthering the government’s ever-present attack on free speech. As such, I would like to see Parliament defeat C-63 and pass S-210. Story supplied 12 hours ago Opinion 6. EICS: EASTER REFLECTIONS: CELEBRATING FAITH, COMMUNITY, AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS As we approach the solemn yet joyful season of Easter, it’s a time for reflection and rejoicing in the heart of our faith as Catholics.
