Kyiv Child is inspired by an archaeological find from Saint Michael's Cathedral
in Ukraine's capital city. That horse riding warrior is replaced by a mother and
child traveling over a platinum and gold leaf gilded plain.

The support is the hood from a ZAZ-1103 "Slavuta" vehicle that was manufactured
in a post-Soviet Ukraine.

This work will be exhibited in Kyiv only when Ukraine is again a free country.

UPDATES

 * This spring, as Russia invaded Ukraine, we rushed to raise funds for
humanitarian projects to support the people of Ukraine. We produced 224
limited-edition prints of Kyiv Child and, thanks to Malaspina Printmakers,
who donated time and supplies, we were able to send $25,000 to Doctors
Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada and $51,000 to UNICEF
   Canada.

Any additional money we raise will be shared among the resident artists of
the TSEKH Art Gallery in Kyiv.

To enquire about the few remaining prints, or to make a donation, please
   write to us: sales@mny.ca.

 * Michael is working on an 8-square-metre mural commissioned by the Humboldt
Forum in Berlin, Germany. This commission examines Michael's
great-great-grandfather meeting in 1882 with Johan Adrian Jacobsen, a
Norwegian collector of Indigenous artefacts for European museums. The mural
is being printed and painted on handmade, bespoke mulberry paper made by the
Kubota Family in Western Honshu, Japan.

 * The studio finished a new public art sculpture for a residential development
in Vancouver. The work was manufactured from stainless steel in Calgary,
Alberta, and is being installed in July, 2022.

 * The creative team behind the Flight of the Hummingbird Opera has been asked
to create a vision for a an expanded version of the opera. Working with
composer Maxime Goulet and dramaturge Glynis Leyshon, Michael is excited to
reimagine the original 45-minute opera as a 1.5-hour production.

 * In the fall of 2021, Michael was honoured to be featured in Scholastic Art
Magazine. For Michael, being included in this publication speaks to the
importance of art, and how it isn't restricted by demographics: the same art
produced for European museums can speak to children in American schools. The
power of art transcends the divides we create between age groups, ethnicity,
   and class.
