WELCOME

JANUARY 26, 2023

IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL COVIDUOUS YEARS SINCE CONFIDENTLY ANNOUNCING I WOULD BE
SETTING UP BETUMI’S KITCHEN. MUCH HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN.

I NO LONGER HAVE ANY BOLGA BASKETS FOR SALE. AND 3-D PRINTING THE ADINKRA STAMPS
HAS PROVEN TO BE CUMBERSOME, AND LIMITING. I ATTEMPTED TO DEVELOP SILICONE MOLDS
FOR THE STAMPS, BUT COULDN’T ATTACH HANDLES. NOW I’M ATTEMPTING TO MAKE SILICONE
MOLDS AND FILL THEM WITH AN EPOXY THAT WILL BE MORE DURABLE AND CAN BE WASHED IN
A DISHWASHER. IN THE MEANTIME, I STILL HAVE A FEW 3-D PRINTED ONES AVAILABLE.
I’LL KEEP YOU UPDATED HERE.

IF YOU’RE NEW HERE:  AKWAABA! WELCOME TO BETUMI: THE AFRICAN CULINARY
NETWORK.(BEH-TWO-ME IS AN AKAN WORD MEANING “CAN DO.”) SINCE 1997 (26 YEARS!)
THIS SITE (FORMERLY ANANSE’S WEB: THE AFRICAN CULINARY NETWORK) HAS BEEN
CONNECTING SCHOLARS, PROFESSIONALS, HOME COOKS AND OTHERS WHO DELIGHT IN AFRICAN
CUISINE AND FOOD HISTORY. THIS, ALONG WITH MY TWITTER (@BETUMI) AND INSTAGRAM
SITES PROVIDE A SPACE TO DISCOVER, DOCUMENT, AND SHARE INFORMATION ON THE VAST
AND FASCINATING CULINARY HERITAGE OF AFRICA. FEEL FREE TO EXPLORE THE SITE AND
JOIN OUR ON-LINE COMMUNITY.)

NOTE: Currently in the process of being updated. Some links may no longer be
accurate (February 5, 2018) The Library was originally designed as an eclectic
collection of resources and links  to keep up with the African food and culture
scene. Some were general popular resources (like restaurant listings or recipe
sites), others were more… Continue reading Library

STORY

BETUMI is unabashedly a labor of love. It exists, developed and maintained by
me, because it needs to be here. It also needs you to come and keep me honest,
help educate me, encourage me, and continue the conversations that need to take
place. I look forward to our future.

provide help to hungry children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
