Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Celebration

April 29 · Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House

In an effort to generate space for celebrations within the larger graduation
event, we invite this year’s graduating class to create an extraordinary gesture
(a symbol, sign, or some other way of marking the occasion) that honors not just
your milestone, but the cultural and community traditions that have supported
you toward your achievement. Save the date for the Equity, Diversity, &
Inclusion Celebration, and join us in creating new ways of celebrating the whole
of us.

Let's Celebrate!

50 Years of Hip-Hop’s Influence on the Culture and Social Movements

Reframing the Conversation · Feb. 14 @ 12 p.m. · Hybrid Event

Hip-Hop’s influence on culture can’t be overstated—extending beyond music to
encompass fashion, film, politics, and visual arts. The art form has also
provided a platform for underrepresented voices, allowing artists from
communities to share their experiences and address social and economic
inequalities. Hip-Hop’s beats and rhymes have also become anthems for activism,
inspiring whole movements while addressing issues such as racial injustice,
police brutality, gender inequality, and economic disparities (Public Enemy’s
“Fight the Power” is one obvious example).

Please join us and our partners at the Hinckley Institute of Politics for this
special Reframing the Conversation during Black History Month—where we’ll
explore many of the areas in our culture that Hip-Hop has helped shape over the
past half-century.

Reframing the Conversation is a monthly hybrid series. Attendees can join in
person at the Hinckley Caucus Room (GC 2018) or virtually on the Reframing the
Conversation webpage.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) encourages everyone to affirm and
celebrate all our unique characteristics across multiple backgrounds, beliefs,
and experiences. Celebrating U Completely aims to promote the positive
contributions of everyone at the U—and highlight the varied and valuable
perspectives, talents, and skills that add to the dynamic and inspiring culture
of the university. By affirming our differences and rooting ourselves in our
shared humanity, we can move forward as one university community that fosters a
welcoming campus climate where every individual knows they belong.
