Masseria Testaferrata Country Lodge & Farm-Stay

> A 19TH CENTURY FARM ESTATE BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED, A QUIET COUNTRY RETREAT IN
> THE HEART OF A NATURAL RESERVE, A STONE’S THROW FROM SYRACUSE’S VIBRANT OLD
> TOWN

A HAVEN OF PEACE AND TRANQUILITY

Situated in the breathtaking scenery of the Plemmirio headland, across the mouth
of Syracuse’s great harbour yet only 8 km away from Ortigia, the city’s ancient
district, Masseria Testaferrata is nested in the heart of a 55 hectares (135,000
acres) organic farming estate within the natural reserve of the Plemmirio. A
unique setting, a hidden garden of Eden where orange and olive groves compete
with the ubiquitous and fragrant mediterranean bush for the conquest of this
sun-drenched peninsula. The crystal-clear waters of Pellerina creek, part of the
marine reserve, are only a 10 minutes stroll away.
Masseria Testaferrata has been beautifully restored to offer pristine
accommodation for those discerning visitors wanting to break away from
traditional hotels or bed & breakfasts. The Masseria experience is different
and unique, it is a journey into the roots of Italy’s rural culture. The farm is
active and produces organically grown citrus fruits, olives, vegetables and
cereals.

LIVE THE MASSERIA EXPERIENCE

The “masserie” are the ancient, fortified farmhouses that dot the countryside of
Italy’s most Southern provinces. In a way they were the 18th and 19th centuries’
heirs of the Roman villas, providing food supplies and revenue for the land’s
master. They constituted a sort of self-sustaining microcosm, with the master’s
villa situated at the centre of a complex of farm buildings, barns and other
facilities to accommodate workers, animals and tools. The masseria was the
landed gentry’s designated countryside getaway from the city’s busy life.

LODGING AND AMENITIES

With its 22 comfortably appointed double rooms, including 2 junior suites and a
suite, all with air-conditioning, wi-fi and satellite TV, its gastronomic
restaurant doubling as a day bistro, the secluded swimming pool and 19th Century
Italian garden, Masseria Testaferrata is more than your ordinary farm-stay. It
stands in a league of its own: the charm and elegance of the 19th Century
sandstone buildings, the thick walls and the typical Sicilian tiles together
with the stunning beauty of the surrounding nature, offer holidaymakers the very
best of this land’s rural heritage. A perfect base from which to launch exciting
excursions across the region, discovering the hidden secrets of Sicily, but also
where to indulge in leisurely farniente with your family, maybe by the pool or,
for the more adventurous, explore the farm’s extensive grounds and the
peninsula.

THE FRESHEST OF INGREDIENTS

At Testaferrata, we insist on the freshness of all our ingredients. So much so
that guests are even encouraged to pick their own selection of vegetables and
herbs directly in our garden! Grab a basket and take a stroll through the
“orto”, the vegetable patch adjacent to the restaurant. Fill it with whatever
you fancy for your meal and drop it by the kitchen, we’ll prepare it for you and
use it as your personal addition to the day’s menu. Ever tasted a tomato still
warm from the afternoon sun? Have it simply sliced, with a pinch of sea-salt
flakes and a dash of our home-pressed olive oil, and be overwhelmed by the
intensity of the flavour rush. A heavenly experience.
