ROBERT K. TRIPP APPOINTED SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE OF THE FBI’S SAN FRANCISCO
FIELD OFFICE

Director Christopher Wray has appointed Robert K. Tripp as the special agent in
charge of the San Francisco field office. Mr. Tripp most recently served as a
Supervising Inspector in the Inspections Division at FBI Headquarters in
Washington.

Mr. Tripp joined the FBI in 1998 as an intelligence research specialist and
worked in the Criminal Investigation Department’s Transnational Organized Crime
Headquarters. He was appointed a special agent in 2003 and assigned to the St.
Louis Field Office to investigate public corruption and white-collar crime.

In 2006, Mr. Tripp transferred to the Washington Field Office and was assigned
to handle international mass marketing fraud through the Department of Justice’s
Fraud Division. At the end of his assignment, he was investigating corporate and
securities fraud from the Washington field office.

Mr. Tripp was promoted to Supervisor Special Agent in 2012 and worked in the
Director’s Research Group at headquarters preparing the Director for meetings,
conferences and events. In 2014, Mr. Tripp joined the Sacramento Field Office in
California and oversaw a public corruption and civil rights group. He later
oversaw a group responsible for violent crimes and violent crimes against
children, as well as the Fairfield Resident Agency, a Sacramento field office.

In 2018, Mr. Tripp was promoted to Deputy Special Agent in charge of the
Sacramento office and responsible for all criminal and cyber threat
investigations. He was also responsible for the criminal units in all seven
Sacramento-based agencies. As ASAC, he also served as acting commander of the
newly formed Sacramento Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Mr. Tripp was promoted to inspector in 2021 and returned to headquarters. The
Inspection Division conducts internal investigations, reviews operational
performance and how the FBI conducts investigations and other authorized
activities, and conducts special investigations.

Mr. Tripp received his bachelor’s degree in history from Cornell University in
Ithaca, New York, and his master’s and doctorate in history from Washington
University in St. Louis.
