And so far, Ukraine has been losing out on American support while Israel is getting all the help it needs. At the same time, there are obviously issues related to the domestic situation in the US. The GOP has been attempting to shift the focus to the national questions of utmost importance, such as illegality, immigration, and border control. The Republican Party has made efforts to divide the question of foreign aid according to its foreign diplomacy priorities. Evidently, many believe that supporting America’s longtime ally, Israel, should be given priority. For this exact reason, the bill for the support of Israel in the ongoing Gaza war has already been adopted, while the question regarding support for Ukraine has been postponed. The Democrats are worried that the separation of the foreign aid bills will result in the abandonment of efforts for the provision of aid for Ukraine. Some of the countries in the European Union have already spoken up about putting an end to their engagement in the conflict. > “I know that both sides genuinely care about providing aid to Israel and > Ukraine and helping innocent civilians in Gaza, so I hope we can come to an > agreement, even if neither side gets everything they insist on,” Senate > Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stated earlier this fall. The national divide is evident in the bills currently drafted by the two parties. The Democrat-led Senate is working its way through the draft of an aid bill that would address all the ongoing wars in defense of the “democratic values” in the world. At the same time, the GOP, widely led by Republicans, has already passed, as we previously reported, a one-end foreign aid bill aimed at supporting Israel. And while the debate over foreign aid splits the country in two, there are other issues that demand the lawmakers’ attention. The situation on the border needs to be addressed as well. > “The goal here is simple: slow the flow and stop the catch-and-release asylum > system that’s overrunning border communities and blue cities alike,” Senate > Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in floor remarks before the > Thanksgiving recess. “This crisis isn’t crying out for boatloads of new > taxpayer dollars. Just commonsense policy reform.” The United States is struggling to deal with an immigration crisis, while Congress is battling over the question of foreign aid. Evidently, the US is, as always, too preoccupied with the democracy in all the other countries to assure the security of its own.
