Virginijus Sinkevičius is Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries
at the European Commission. From 2017 to 2019 he served as Minister of Economy,
and before this he led the Economics Committee of the Lithuanian parliament. Mr
Sinkevičius was elected to parliament in 2016. Prior to this he was a team lead
for regulatory affairs at Invest Lithuania.

UN climate change high-level champion, Egypt

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, is an economist with more than 30 years of experience in
international finance and development. In February 2022, Dr. Mohieldin was
appointed by the Egyptian Government as the Climate Action Champion at the 2022
United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), with aims at enhancing the
communication between the Egyptian presidency of COP27 and businesses, the
private sector and, international funding institutions working in climate
change-related fields. Since February 2020, Dr. Mohieldin has been the United
Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Development Agenda.

He is the former Minister of Investment of Egypt from 2004-2010, and most
recently, served as the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030
Development Agenda, United Nations Relations and Partnerships. His professional
experience extends into the academic arena as a Professor of Economics and
Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University and
as a Visiting Professor at several renowned Universities in Egypt, Korea, the
UAE, the UK and the USA.

Dr. Mohieldin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, United
Kingdom; a Master’s in Economics and Social Policy Analysis from the University
of York, United Kingdom; a Diploma of Development Economics from the University
of Warwick; and a B.Sc. in Economics from Cairo University.

   Interview: Climate leadership — preventing 85 million being physically
   displaced by 2050

Dr Mo Ibrahim is the Founder and Chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, which he
established in 2006 to support good governance and exceptional leadership on the
African continent. Sudanese-born, Dr Ibrahim has a distinguished business
career. In 1989 he founded Mobile Systems International (MSI), a world leading
cellular consulting and software provider, and in 1998, Celtel International,
one of Africa’s leading mobile telephone companies which pioneered mobile
services in Africa.
Dr Ibrahim is also Founding Chairman of Satya Capital Limited, a private
investment firm primarily focused on Africa. Dr Ibrahim has received numerous
honorary degrees and fellowships from a range of prestigious
academic institutions including University of Birmingham, Bradford University,
De Montfort University -Leicester, Imperial College – London, London Business
School, Oxford University, Royal Academy of Engineering, SOAS – University of
London, University of Pennsylvania, Lancaster University and University of
Oxford. Dr Ibrahim is also the recipient of a number of awards including The GSM
Association’s Chairman’s Award for Lifetime Achievement (2007), The Economist
Innovation Award for Social & Economic Innovation (2007), BNP Paribas Prize for

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, is an economist with more than 30 years of experience in
international finance and development. In February 2022, Dr. Mohieldin was
appointed by the Egyptian Government as the Climate Action Champion at the 2022
United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), with aims at enhancing the
communication between the Egyptian presidency of COP27 and businesses, the
private sector and, international funding institutions working in climate
change-related fields. Since February 2020, Dr. Mohieldin has been the United
Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Development Agenda.

He is the former Minister of Investment of Egypt from 2004-2010, and most
recently, served as the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030
Development Agenda, United Nations Relations and Partnerships. His professional
experience extends into the academic arena as a Professor of Economics and
Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University and
as a Visiting Professor at several renowned Universities in Egypt, Korea, the
UAE, the UK and the USA.

Dr. Mohieldin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, United
Kingdom; a Master’s in Economics and Social Policy Analysis from the University
of York, United Kingdom; a Diploma of Development Economics from the University
of Warwick; and a B.Sc. in Economics from Cairo University.

cellular consulting and software provider, and in 1998, Celtel International,

services in Africa.
Dr Ibrahim is also Founding Chairman of Satya Capital Limited, a private

De Montfort University -Leicester, Imperial College – London, London Business
School, Oxford University, Royal Academy of Engineering, SOAS – University of
