HONORS RETREAT



The Honors Retreat marks the beginning of each new academic year and is an
excellent way for new incoming Honors College students to meet upperclassmen,
faculty, staff and alumni. The retreat provides you the opportunity to become a
member of the Honors College community before classes begin.

TWILIGHT TOUR

Join the Honors College Student Recruitment Team for a twilight tour that will
provide an overview of opportunities available through the Honors experience,
including academics, student life, engagement, and admissions.

   University of Houston as freshmen, students enrolled at the University for
   one or several semesters and students transferring from other colleges and
   universities.

   encourage prospective students and their families to meet faculty and staff
   and see the campus. Prospective students have several opportunities to visit
   the Honors College — the Cougar Preview, one of our High School Senior Open
   Houses or an Individual Visit!

 * SUMMER SCHOOL: EDUCATORS GAIN CREATIVE INSPIRATION DURING UH’S COMMON GROUND
   TEACHERS INSTITUTE
   
   Teachers can attend Common Ground at no cost, and their books are
   underwritten by past grants from the McGovern Foundation. For their
   participation in the institute, educators will earn 30 Texas Education
   Agency-approved Continuing Professional Education hours.


 * FROM STUDENT TO TEACHER: CASE DEBATES CHAMPION COMES FULL CIRCLE THROUGH UH
   HONORS DEBATE WORKSHOP
   
   The CASE Debates program is also creating a pipeline of alumni who return to
   the debate camp each summer, just like Appiah. These alumni, once former
   participants, now use their debate skills in the classroom as coaches.  


 * SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS TRANSPORTING COOGS TO NEW ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENTS
   
   It has been yet another banner year for student success at the University of
   Houston.
   On the heels of UH announcing a record number of student Fulbrights and a
   student earning the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, Cougars have received even
   more distinguished honors that will support their personal and professional
   growth.


 * LEADING BY EXAMPLE
   
   At the 69th Annual Alumni Awards Gala, Kaitlyn Palividas (’17) won the Billie
   Schneider Outstanding Volunteer Award. The award was recognition of
   Palividas’ tireless work in the University of Houston alumni community.


 * RECORD NUMBER OF UH FULBRIGHTS PUTS COOGS ON THE MAP
   
   Recently, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program awarded scholarships to 14
   University of Houston students and alumni, who will soon travel worldwide to
   impart knowledge gained at their alma mater while supporting global
   populations.


 * HONORS COLLEGE GRADUATES CELEBRATED FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS
   
   More than 400 family, friends, faculty and staff gathered in the Conrad N.
   Hilton Ballroom of the Hilton University of Houston to celebrate Honors
   College graduates during the Honors College Medallion Ceremony on Tuesday,
   May 7, 2024. 


 * A NIGHT OF GREAT CONVERSATION AT THE MUSEUM
   
   The Honors College hosted its 32nd annual Great Conversation fundraiser April
   20 in Morian Hall of Paleontology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.


 * AN ACADEMIC ‘VANGUARD’ FOR HOUSTON — AND THE WORLD
   
   The UH Honors College has found a way to enact a rigorous, humanist
   curriculum while remaining uniquely inclusive.
