Inspired by the people he’s met on his social ascent from a humble background to
scaling heights, Umapathy brings out the profound essence of their emotions –
through strokes of paint.

Having honed his innate artistic skills at the College of Fine Arts, he works
with acrylics to express intangible relationships, where the figures invoke a
strong sense of conviction.

The result is his signature style – a mesh of black & white elements, overlaying
a colourful diaspora. He captures people’s internal emotions and external
responses in a way that’s intimate and universal at the same time.

Abstract ideas are translated into reality amongst an array of elements that
leaves one with a certain connection, if not longing for more. He began his
career in advertising and interiors while working as a director for commercial
shoots and corporate films. Through his art, Umapathy has raised funds for
several non-profit organisations. Being an artist, his experience in creative
fields with design as a core, give him a sense of space and visual aesthetics
that come through in his vivid paintings.
