AbortionTracking abortion laws by state Abortion on the ballot Before Roe Dobbs
v. Jackson Women’s Health

THIS STATE CALLS ITSELF THE ‘MOST PRO-LIFE.’ BUT MOMS THERE KEEP DYING.

GIVING BIRTH IN ARKANSAS, ESPECIALLY ITS RURAL SOUTHEAST, COMES WITH MORE RISK
AND LESS CARE. THE CHALLENGES FEEL ACUTE FOR SOMEONE LIKE DOULA HAJIME WHITE.

WARREN, Ark. — The pregnant teen had already picked out a name for her baby,
already felt him kick, which made the sight of blood in her underwear all the
more frightening as she was getting ready for bed that fall night.

Her mother, Ronica Lawson, called for an ambulance to take them to the hospital
five minutes away. As the sirens blared and the EMTs tried to reassure
15-year-old Sa’Ryiah Lincoln, bad news crackled out of the radio. Head to the
next county, the EMTs were told. The local hospital no longer delivered babies.

U.S. ABORTION ACCESS, REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Tracking abortion access in the United States: Since the Supreme Court struck
down Roe v. Wade, the legality of abortion has been left to individual states.
The Washington Post is tracking states where abortion is legal, banned or under
threat.

Abortion pills: The Supreme Court refused to limit access to the abortion pill
mifepristone. Here’s how mifepristone is used and where you can legally access
the abortion pill.

Abortion and the election: Voters in about a dozen states could decide the fate
of abortion rights with constitutional amendments on the ballot in a pivotal
election year. Republicans approved a new party platform that embraces former
president Donald Trump’s political positions, including a leave-it-to-states
approach to abortion law that abandons the party’s long-standing explicit
support for national restrictions. Harris’s position is that people should have
access to abortion care.

Reproductive rights: The Senate voted to block a bill to create a federal right
to contraception access. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, far-right
conservatives have been trying to curtail birth-control access by sowing
misinformation about how various methods work to prevent pregnancy. See how
every senator voted on the Right to Contraception Act.
