ENERGY EFFICIENT COMPUTING: LIQUID COOLING IN THE ERA OF AI AND HPC

Cold air has been the traditional means for removing heat and keeping data
center systems cool. But air-cooling methods can’t keep pace with the high
energy consumption and dense configurations of racks and components like central
processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs) and tensor processing
units (TPUs) used for AI, machine learning, HPC and enterprise workloads.
Sustainability goals further pressure companies to find better, more
environmentally friendly and energy-efficient ways to cool their systems.

Modern liquid cooling methods like Lenovo Neptune® meet both demands by
combining efficient heat extraction from IT equipment with capturing the energy
for potential reuse. Further, Neptune® reduces coolant disposal costs because
its liquid coolant is environmentally friendly, requiring no special disposal
treatments.

This white paper explains the soaring demand for liquid cooling in more detail
and presents a compelling case study in The Flatiron Institute’s use of Neptune®
in its large HPC infrastructure containing extensive computational capability.

QCT GENAI SOLUTIONS: QCT POD WITH NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 – POWERING THE FUTURE OF
LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS

This paper will explore the rapid increase of Generative AI (GenAI) technologies
and the infrastructure they demand. It highlights the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72
architecture as well as the QCT Platform on Demand (POD) as solutions to enhance
AI workload efficiency. The NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system is designed for training
large language models (LLMs) and uses a high-performance setup with
interconnected GPUs and advanced networking capabilities to manage future
trillion-parameter models. Additionally, QCT POD offers a pre-configured
solution that integrates compute, storage, and networking components to simplify
AI infrastructure deployment. This paper addresses the challenges of GenAI –
like the resource-intensive training sessions and the need for efficient
inter-GPU communication – by providing hardware and software solutions.

QCT QOOLRACK STAND-ALONE: ADVANCED LIQUID COOLING FOR NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 SYSTEMS

This paper will discuss the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system, which is designed to meet
the demands of large-scale AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.
The system features 72 Blackwell GPUs and 36 Grace CPUs, and it is a
liquid-cooled server rack that offers significant computing power while also
addressing critical thermal management challenges. The GB200 NVL72 integrates
with NVIDIA’s Modular GPU Accelerated (MGX) architecture, which enables a
flexible and scalable framework for AI and HPC workloads. This paper will
discuss the QoolRack Stand-alone solution, which enables exceptional thermal
management capabilities with a liquid cooling system capable of dissipating 75kW
of heat. With a focus on serviceability and thermal management, QCT’s QuantaGrid
D75E-4U offers a versatile server solution.
