Take in the view from all perspectives Beckford’s Tower: Reopening 29th June
2024 Visit the newly restored Museum and Landscape in 29th June 2024 to discover
stories of William Beckford's abusive relationships, understand his life in
exile, and confront the reality of his wealth gained from the transatlantic
slave trade. Online bookings will be available soon.

Beckford’s Tower and Museum is now closed until 29th June 2024 as we undertake
capital works (made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund) to transform
the museum, restore the Tower and reconnect the landscape.

There will be ongoing opportunities to engage with the conservation work, so
please keep an eye on our social media pages or sign up to the “Our Tower”
newsletter for further information.

PLANNING AND LISTED BUILDING CONSENT SECURED

Built between 1826 and 1827, Beckford’s Tower is an extraordinary building that
was once home to one of the greatest collections of books, furniture and art in
Georgian England and now stands as the only surviving example of William
Beckford’s great architectural achievements.

William Beckford’s ability to build, and to collect, was made possible by the
wealth he inherited and continued to accumulate as an owner of Jamaican sugar
plantations and enslaved people, and through the compensation he received from
the government following the abolition of slavery.
