All design elements were chosen with consideration of Chinese and Korean cultures i.e. traditional washi paper patterns, select flowers of cultural significance. Who’s next?’ ︎ AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS S2 Show Packaging Design / Comedy Central I designed show packaging, promos, and stunts for season 2 of Awkwafina is Nora From Queens, with the main goal of promoting the show to viewers from the same cultures as Awkwafina: Korean, Chinese, and New York. I chose mosaic tiles as a simple graphic device from these cultures’ urban landscapes to connect these viewers, creating a show open design and a design element for the key art. The show also enjoys experiential stunts. Using real Korean and Chinese fruit stickers as inspiration, I came up the idea of placing stickers of foods from this season on those items in grocery stores. I read the scripts to find the foods eaten each episode, then designed stickers with those items and the episode numbers, and a unique sticker for each character. I served as Creative Director for both print and digital for 3 years. Since our contributors were some of the most thoughtful young minds in the world, I made it my mission to push our content towards the intersection of social/political issues, culture, and style. I gave print space to minority voices in particular and infused our elegant design style with new funk and grittiness. In 1 year, I grew our online readership by 30,000+ and MINT developed partnerships with Norma Kamali, VFILES, Bloomingdale’s, and Barbara Tfank. Our cover model, a 285-pound wrestler, showcases his tender relationship with his emotional support rabbit and shatters stereotypes of Black men. Prev / Next (1 of 1) Spring 2019: ‘Excess’ Inspired by a time when aesthetics seemed dominated by either extreme minimalism or maximalism. Our content went overboard, as did our electrifying cover shoot, with gluttony and oversaturation. Prev / Next (1 of 1) Winter 2019: ‘Warmth’ Exploring the idea of 'warmth', both literally and as a representation of security and home. Many of us spent the winter hiding away within the relentless political climate. Our cocooned cover model reflects the vulnerability in hibernation and the curiosity for re-emergence. Prev / Next (1 of 1) Fall 2018: ‘Reversal’ This issue explored what happens when we reverse political dichotomies, coming off the heels of an especially political time in the fashion industry. We reversed current systems to imagine worlds radically opposite to ours. Prev / Next (1 of 1) Winter 2018: ‘Come As You Are’ An issue inviting readers to a quiet healing space within MINT's pages, for introspection and sharing of our true selves, away from outside expectations. Our cover model unabashedly explored beauty and fashion under this philosophy. ︎ SOLO OCCUPANCY Digital Illustration Series A deck of illustrations of strange people alone in strange places. Inspired by my wild, sinister imagination while in isolation in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I invite you to imagine where this place exists and how we can access it. 'Piste' was exhibited at Gearbox Gallery (Oakland, CA) as part of 2020 show 'Sanctuary'. To celebrate, BET.com ran 6 articles, featuring the most iconic hip-hop albums from each decade of hip-hop thus far. I created hero illustrations for these articles in a rush project - all were completed in two days. Each piece was customized to the decade, with relevant patterns, typography, and photo medium (e.g. old photographs, pop-up windows) to make each collage feel of-the-era. The first installment was launched on August 28, the date of the March on Washington, the murder of Emmett Till, and many more historical events.
