What You Need to Know
January 2024
 * UI Fraud and Tax Bills: Have you received a bill from the IRS, New York State
Department of Taxation and Finance, or another state tax department related
to unemployment benefits that you did not file? If so, you may be a victim of
unemployment identity fraud. To file a fraud report with NYS DOL, please
visit our Report Unemployment Insurance Fraud page.
 * Minimum Wage: The state minimum wage increased on January 1, 2024 to $16.00
per hour for New York City and the counties of Nassau, Suffolk and
Westchester, and to $15.00 per hour for the rest of the state. For more
information about minimum wage, visit our Minimum Wage webpage
 * 1099-G Update: By the end of January, New Yorkers who received unemployment
benefits in 2023 will receive a copy of their 1099-G in the mail.  You will
also soon be able to view and print your 1099-G tax form on our website by
mid-January. For more information about the form, visit our 1099-G webpage.
 * Helping Connect Asylum Seekers to Employment Opportunities: Governo Hochul
recently directed the NYSDOL to help connect asylum seekers to employment
opportunities so they can begin working immediately after obtaining federal
work authorization. Learn more at our Asylum Seeker Employment Efforts page.
 * Youth Worker Pledge: Employers, help us protect New York’s youth workers! In
2023, Governor Kathy Hochul tasked the New York State Department of Labor to
create the Protect Youth Workers Pledge for employers as a part of a broader
initiative to protect youth workers within the state.

Ensuring Equality in the Workplace
Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The New York State Department of Labor (DOL) is committed to diversity,
inclusion, and equal opportunity for the customers we serve and for our own
staff. We recognize that each New Yorker who comes through our doors —whether
brick and mortar or virtual—has different circumstances and we believe in
accessibility to assure they have a clear pathway to learn about and utilize
whatever services they need. We use data to help inform and drive outcomes to
move the needle on DEI in NY. And, we work to create an environment where our
own employees are empowered and diversity can thrive.
