WHAT WE DO

CARDIAC SUPPORT SPEAKERS

RECOVERY PROGRAMME

SEMINARS

Helderberg Cardiac Support offers a Cardiac Wellness Programme with a range of
benefits that can positively impact on the well-being of individuals with
heart-related conditions.

Cardiac Wellness provides emotional support, practical tips, knowledge sharing,
motivation and a sense of community. It provides a multi-faceted,
multi-disciplinary programme focused on prevention, recovery and support.

We do this through:

Speaker Series

Recovery Programme

Annual Seminar Day

Speaker Series form parts of our bimonthly meetings and provide opportunities to
learn from each other and guest speakers who are experts in their fields.

These meetings are typically held on Wednesday evenings. Commencing at 5:30 pm,
there is a half hour to share experiences, then a speaker’s presentation from
6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Cardiac Support meetings are hosted at Mediclinic Vergelegen or Busamed, as well
as on-line via Zoom.

The Recovery Programme offers weekly sessions on Thursday mornings. These are
both on-line and on-site.

Our Recovery programme, under 'RECOVERY' is co-ordinated by Trudi List:

·    restores confidence in physical abilities through supervised exercise

·    offers guidance on dietary and lifestyle changes

·    improves understanding of and compliance with medicine prescriptions

·    boosts psychosocial well-being by promoting a safe and sharing environment.

Support begins on the day of your first cardiac experience and continues as long
as it takes you to make a full recovery. It plays a crucial role in enhancing
recovery after a cardiac event, ie: angina, heart attack, cardiac procedure or
surgery.

The programme provides progressive, supervised exercise, education and support.
It aims to improve heart health, redice risk factors and increase self
confidence. It contributes to better physical fitness, psychosocial well-being,
reduced complications and increased longevity.

For more information contact the programme co-ordinator
on info@cardiacsupport.co.za

The Seminar is an annual half day event held on a Saturday morning. It provides
a platform for individuals to come together, learn from experts and to
strengthen their sense of belonging within the community. The next annual
seminar is planned for Saturday, October 14th from 8am to 1pm.

WEBINAR | METABOLIC MATRIX: INTRODUCING THE CARDIOVASCULAR-KIDNEY-METABOLIC
SYNDROME

Chaired by Professor Garry Jennings and joined by Dr. Chiadi Ndumele from the
American Heart Association (AHA), this webinar focuses on the groundbreaking
introduction of the cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome. CKM syndrome
signals a new era in understanding the profound interconnections between
cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, Type 2 diabetes, and obesity. With CKM
syndrome affecting nearly every major organ in the body, our expert panel
unpacks the latest evidence of CKM syndrome; shedding light on the
multi-factorial implications for the patient health outcomes. In 90 minutes of
live presentations and Q&A, the experts cover: - Defining CKM syndrome, its
underlying causes, and implications on patients’ health outcomes. -
Understanding the screening, symptoms, and diagnosis of CKM. - Innovative
approaches for the management of CKM through preventative strategies. -
Discussions around renal and endocrine considerations in managing CKM
complications to improve CVD outcomes. - Practical tools and resources for
enhancing CVD risk factor management in primary healthcare settings.

AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION TO A FAILING HEART | HEART FOUNDATION

Research is the bedrock for our work at the Heart Foundation. It helps create
the future we want to see: an Australia free of heart disease. Thanks to donors,
we’re able to fund researcher Dr Thanh Nho Do, as he develops a better treatment
option for people living with heart failure. Only a limited number of heart
failure patients have access to specialised life-support machines or a left
ventricular assist device (LVAD). These machines keep them alive. Dr Do and his
team are working on a soft robotic device to improve how a failing heart pumps
blood. Their aim is to make it less bulky and more portable than the LVAD – and
more cost-effective. This will make it easier for more people around Australia
to access. This exciting research could give people waiting for a heart
transplant more time and help improve their quality of life. And it’s because of
you that ground-breaking research like Dr Do’s is possible. Will you help
advance cardiovascular research and give the gift of life today?
