THE CONFERENCE

The International Conference on Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (the TERS
series) brings together academic and industrial researchers interested in the
latest developments in the field of Tip-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS).

The meeting addresses the fundamentals and applications of TERS, with special
emphasis on improvements in reliability, comparability, robustness, spatial
resolution, enhancement and methodology. The scientific program usually includes
invited and contributed talks, industry presentations and a poster session.

The TERS series had its first edition in 2009, and since then it has been
gathering a growing number of scientists from around the world.

THE LOCATION

ABOUT THE CITY

BELO HORIZONTE

Belo Horizonte is the sixth largest city in Brazil, the thirteenth largest city
in South America. Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais,
Brazil's second most populous state. The region was first settled in the early
18th century, but the city, as it is known today, was planned and constructed in
the 1890s, in order to replace Ouro Preto as the capital of Minas Gerais. The
city features a mixture of contemporary and classical buildings, and is home to
several modern Brazilian architectural icons, most notably the Pampulha Complex,
where it is placed the TERS 9 venue.

The city is built on several hills and is surrounded by mountains. The
Mangabeiras Park (Parque das Mangabeiras), located 6 km south-east from the city
center, in the hills of Curral Ridge (Serra do Curral), offers a broad view of
the city (see the photo above).

CITY CENTER: LIBERTY SQUARE CULTURAL CIRCUIT

Located in central Belo Horizonte, the Liberty Square Cultural Circuit (top
right photo) is Brazil’s largest complex dedicated to cultural education. The
eleven museums and institutions in the cultural circuit, which are located on or
near the Liberty Square, include: Arquivo Público Mineiro, Biblioteca Pública
Estadual Luiz de Bessa, Centro de Arte Popular Cemig, Centro Cultural Banco do
Brasil, Espaço do Conhecimento UFMG, Horizonte Sebrae – Casa da Economia
Criativa, Cefar Liberdade, Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, Museu das Minas e do
Metal, Museu Mineiro and Palácio da Liberdade. The curved building on the
bottom-right photo is residential, built by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer

CONFERENCE NEIGHBORHOOD: PAMPULHA ARCHITECTURAL COMPLEX

UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Built in the 1940s and designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, the
Pampulha Architectural Complex features many of Belo Horizonte’s celebrated
landmarks and serves as a benchmark for Brazil’s modern architectural movement.
Sites to see around Pampulha’s lake include São Francisco de Assis Church (photo
on the top-right); the Pampulha Art Museum; The Center for Urbanism,
Architecture, and Design at Casa do Baile (bottom-right photo); Kubitschek (JK)
House and Museum; Belo Horizonte Zoo and Botanical Gardens; as well as the
Minerinho Arena and Mineirão Stadium.

THE VENUE

The TERS9 will be organized at Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG, Belo
Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The venue is the "Centro de Atividades Didáticas 2"
("Center for Didactic Activities 2"), located in the UFMG Pampulha Campus, very
close to the university main entrance, using the Antônio Carlos Avenue.

RECOMMENDED HOTELS

There are excellent accommodation options available near our venue at UFMG. The
area surrounding the university campus is renowned for its tranquility and
beauty, offering a peaceful retreat after a day of engaging sessions. The hotels
here combine comfort with convenience, ensuring a restful stay within a short
distance of the conference activities. Each hotel has been selected for its
quality of service, amenities, and positive guest experiences. We encourage you
to consider these options for your stay, as they provide the perfect backdrop to
enhance your visit to Belo Horizonte.

These hotels have been pre-selected by the organizers of the conference for the
benefit of its participants. There are other options, feel free to look by
yourself.

Advice: it is better to stay in the Pampulha area, and go to city center if you
want to visite, than the opposite. For extra-conference activities, the Pampulha
area is generally more enjoyable than the city center.
