We want to verify the hope and optimism that was at the last meeting in
Glasgow. Are the industrialized countries committed to reducing industries
and disposing of waste in a way that is not harmful to the environment? We
want the oceans to be treated from the disposal of waste in them, and marine
animals to be secured with a painless life, and also we are with them. Are
there effective results from that time?

Hello, Thank Earthday.org, panelists for sharing your projects and views.
Let´s not forget ocean action is also climate action! Our one and only
interconnected OCEAN has always acted as Carbon sink but is now reaching or
has reached its limits. This at a great cost to its species and habitats! We
need to urgently promote and implement ocean litearcy. This allows us to

The rainforests of Sumatra are some of the last remaining in the world, and
the only place where elephants, tigers, rhinos and orangutans live together.
But they’re being intentionally burned and bulldozed to clear forest for
Conflict Palm Oil and pulp plantations – a big problem for both the health of
local communities, the rainforests, and for our climate. One of the biggest
culprits in Indonesia is the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) group that controls
millions of acres of land used for both pulp and palm oil production. Despite
RGE’s track record of mass deforestation, fires, community conflicts and
human rights abuses, Kao still sources palm oil from RGE and maintains a
joint-venture with its palm oil arm APICAL. By doing so, Kao is complicit in
destroying livelihoods of Indigenous communities such as the
   Pargamanan-Bintang Maria community.

There are 1 billion car drivers around the world. Why is there no talk of
cutting the top speed to the optimum for fuel consumption/emissions to
80km/hr. This would be a great first step that could cut up to 1 billion
tonnes of CO2 in a year. This would be measurable by each driver and each
country and provide the success needed to encourage even further cuts in
   consumption.

Restoring degraded terrestrial habitats across the EU could take up to 300
million tonnes of CO2 equivalent out of the atmosphere each year – as much as
the combined annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Belgium, the
Netherlands, and Luxembourg, new research reveals. The findings show the huge
climate action potential of the upcoming EU Nature Restoration Law. The
study, commissioned by WWF and conducted by the Institute for European
Environmental Policy (IEEP), looked at the climate mitigation potential of
restoring “habitats of EU importance”. For more:

PJM Interconnection, the biggest electric grid in the USA, is a major road
block to the US meeting its climate pledges. PJM has allowed only a miniscule
% of renewables to connect to their grid, despite solar and wind being the
majority of interconnection requests, and actually increased the fraction of
coal burned last year. In its latest attack on renewable energy, PJM proposes
a two-year pause on reviewing more than 1,200 energy projects, most of them
solar power. New projects may have to wait even longer. This is an utter
catastrophe for the world's attempts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. PJM
emits 21% of all power sector CO2 emissions in the U.S. PJM must incorporate
the risks of climate change in their decision making and communications. They
must stop burning coal and give preference to renewable energy in their
purchasing decisions by adding the damages caused by climate change (at least
$50-100/metric ton of carbon). PJM should also support decarbonization
policies instead of fighting them, and incentivize community solar projects,
which would also make the grid more resilient. Please write President and CEO

Countries must protect and restore natural forests to solve the linked
climate and biodiversity crises. As Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta notes in
his work The Economics of Biodiversity, “From a financial perspective, just
as diversity within a portfolio of financial assets reduces risk and
uncertainty, so biodiversity increases Nature’s resilience to shocks, and
thereby reduces risks to the ecosystem services on which we rely.” Aside from
its services to humankind, biodiversity holds inherent, intrinsic value that
is not captured in stock portfolios or bottom lines. Read more at

30% of our food produced and at least that amount of clothes produced are
never used but wasted. If we would stop that it would have a huge impact
without having to change the way we live. Adding changing the way we consume
will add more benefits but less consuming and producing the same amount will
make wast go up. Have you looked into that?

Harvesting forests for wood pellets is madness! • Burning forest biomass
increases carbon pollution. • Per unit of energy, it results in higher
emissions than coal. • The biomass industry’s wood sourcing practices are
unsustainable and contribute to forest degradation. • Biomass companies rely
on an industry-dominated certification scheme to “greenwash” their practices
as environmentally friendly. • When biomass companies claim credit for the
carbon-capturing benefit of forests already growing elsewhere in the region,
it doesn’t make their wood pellets a “carbon neutral” fuel—it’s double
counting. • We need to be growing, not shrinking, our forest carbon sink.
Burning trees for electricity takes us backward. • Without massive subsidies,
biomass can’t compete with solar and wind. • European nations are wasting
billions in subsidies on biomass—money that should go to truly clean and
renewable energy like solar and wind.

I recently visited the Maldives and was disappointed to learn that the
government’s actions on climate and sustainability fall far short of their
words. The Maldives islands are blessed with around 2700-2800 hours of
sunshine per year, and are literally surrounded by potential wave and wind
energy. In 2009, recognizing that the country is literally disappearing
beneath rising seas, President Mohamed Nasheed unveiled a plan to make the
country carbon-neutral by 2020. Yet solar panels are scarce (we saw some in
New Malé but not elsewhere), and a planned wave energy system was never
built. In 2019, 99.59% of electricity was generated by burning oil, mostly
expensive diesel fuel. I was told the Maldives has an arrangement with Saudi
Arabia to import oil for all their power needs, and the sustainability
movement was buried by apathy and corruption. The senseless and financially
expensive reliance on imported diesel fuel is one of many poor practices.
Trash is piled up and burned, and plastic bottles and other garbage are cast
or washed into the sea. Much of this garbage piles up on the islands and
reefs (see photo)--I was told this comes from other islands in the Maldives,
not from other countries as I had assumed. This is one of the sadder examples
of governments not following through on sustainability commitments. Words are
not actions. Can anything be done? Please contact: Mr. Ibrahim Naeem,

Putin's brutal and criminal invasion of Ukraine is funded by Russian fossil
fuel exports. But Europe is so addicted to them, they still won't turn off
the tap. Just as destructive, politicians and the media throughout the West
are reacting by demanding that more oil, coal, and gas be produced elsewhere,
rather than emphasizing the need to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Like all
crises, the economic fallout of Putin's war presents two choices: 1. The West
can hasten the transition to clean energy, which would save the planet from
catastrophic climate change and curb the power of dictators from oil-rich

Seeds like the roundup ready ones but also seeds treated with pesticides
are very harmfull to the environment and pollinators feeding from them. For
biodiversity we need native plants and not "improved" to look good for
humans but without pollen and nectar. For agriculture we need to stop
monoculture and start planting more diverse and take better care of soil

Dear All, Many thanks to all angels of relevance on Earth Day. In a little
voluntary no-cost effort since 1988, five cost-free space eco-literacy models

The Romanian government has done very little to stop the ongoing illegal
degradation of the Natura 2000 sites, is allowing logging of old-growth
forests that are critical carbon storehouses, and the “threat to these
protected natural forest ecosystems remains constant and widespread.”
According to a visiting scientist, uncontrolled, illegal fires are set to
ease access to water for fishing, to clear sights for poachers and hunting,
and to support cattle grazing illegally in drying areas. Colossal amounts of
trash and litter can be found everywhere in the country, "up to the most
isolated locations, in every pond, on every hill, in all the forests,
protected or not." The soil is eroding from deforestation, there is illegal
fishing in marine protected areas, and trees have been cleared for
agriculture. Romania must enforce European environmental laws! Please contact

Look into rewilding, if there are still trees around and animals nature can
plant the trees itself. Jays and squirrels are free seed planters. You don't
need massive seedbanks and people planting then. Only in places were the
seeds are gone and to get aware ness of people and get them to protect the
   new plants

Forest protection and restoration are an absolute must if we want to prevent
the worst scenarios of climate change. The IPCC models do not fully
incorporate increases of fire and forest pathogens, and the world has already
reached tipping points like Amazon rainforest dieback and CO2 release from
there. Reducing emissions alone will not stop this process. Not only is this
a biodiversity and regional climate catastrophe, the desertification of
Brazil could push global climate change into a runaway hothouse scenario. It
is imperative to halt deforestation and restore stressed areas--this must be
   a global goal.

As well as Forests consider planting SEAGRASS, also an important protective
element of the environment, that absorb a phenomenal amount of CO2 and create
a buffer to protect the shore, as well as a habitat for all manner of sea
   creatures.

We need to stop promoting and subsidizing the wood pellet industry! The
European Union has erroneously categorized biomass energy as a form of
renewable energy and treats biomass fuel as “carbon neutral.” That
effectively places this dirty energy source on par with solar or wind. On top
of that, EU member states are providing huge financial subsidies to
incentivize biomass burning for electricity. When trees are burned to make
electricity, the result is increased CO2 emissions, devastated ecosystems,
and displaced wildlife. Forests are one of our best tools for fighting
climate change and one of our best defenses against its impact.

Ingmar and team, Happy Earth Day to mom Earth and to all! Thank you for all
you are doing! I would like to ask the following question to the panel: is
the panel aware that the science is out there that shows that tropical
rainforests are strong airconditioners and that frontloading the protection
and restoration of tropical forests and support a fast transition to
agroforestry in those areas can actually calm the weather in those areas fast
,diminishing floods, heatwaves, droughts and forest fires that are causing
food insecurity and hunger, water deficiency, the collapse of biodiversity
and mass migration? Is the panel aware of the Marshall plan to reverse all
this AND cool the planet within one generation through a mass program of
   transitioning to climate-smart landscapes?

It's about time we lived up to our species name 'sapiens' wise ones. Sadly I
see very little wisdom around these days. Don't forget, Homo sapiens is an
