Distributed Artificial Intelligence

Intelligent agents and multi-agent systems
Maybe the only significant difference between a really smart simulation and a
human being was the noise they made when you punched them
Terry Pratchett, The Long Earth

OUR RESEARCH

The Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) Group is carrying out theoretical
and applied research in the domain of intelligent agents and multi-agent
systems.
Theoretical work concerns problems of knowledge representation and reasoning
related to different aspects of agents considered both as individual intelligent
physical (robots), or software entities (e.g. argumentation and preference
reasoning, automated decision making, planning), but also as communities of
agents (e.g. automated negotiation, multi-agent planning, agent communication
languages and dialogues, multi-agent learning, distributed decision making). The
DAI group also carries out research in the domain of agent oriented software
engineering.
The applied research work concerns several domains as for example ambient
intelligence, artificial markets, medical diagnosis, smart cities, legal
systems, etc.

Keywords: computational argumentation, automated negotiation, agent
communication languages and dialogues, multi-agent planning, automated decision
making, multi-agent learning, distributed decision making, agent architectures,
agent oriented software engineering, game theory, boolean games, merging of
knowledge bases, computer games, planning, cooperative path-finding, monte-carlo
(tree) search, heuristic search, combinatorial search, reinforcement learning,
multi-agent learning

The DAI group is part of LIPADE, a computer science department of Université
Paris Cité (ex Paris Descartes university).

We are always looking for motivated students, who are enthusiastic about
artificial intelligence, to work with us!

HOME SERVICES FOR SPECIALISED ELDERLY ASSISTED LIVING

HERA project aims at providing a platform with cost-effective specialized
assisted living services for the elderly people suffering from mild Alzheimer or
cardiovascular diseases with identified risk factors, which will significantly
improve the quality of their home life, extend its duration and at the same time
reinforce social networking.

COQUIAAS

A CONSTRAINT-BASED QUICK ABSTRACT ARGUMENTATION SOLVER

CoQuiAAS is an open-source software developed to answer a current need in the
Artificial Intelligence community : the ability to solve efficiently inference
tasks about argumentation frameworks. Our software provides the sufficient
reasoning tools to work with the usual acceptability semantics (Complete,
Preferred, Stable and Grounded) and the usual inference tasks (compute one
extension, enumerate all the extensions, credulous acceptance and skeptical
acceptance). CoQuiAAS respects the requirements of the First International
Competition on Computational Models of Argumentation and can use the different
input formats of the competition.

ARGUMENT THEORY

An AI startup called Argument Theory is created since May 2019. Argument Theory
offers the rAIson platform, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) SaaS platform
specializing in the modelling and automation of complex and difficult
decision-making, in a changing environment and in the presence of incomplete
information. The rAIson technology is based on our scientific work on
computational argumentation.

SEMINARS AND GROUP MEETINGS

PANAMAGENTS: THE AGENTS SEMINAR IN PARIS

PANAMAGENTS is a seminar on intelligent agents and multi-agent systems, the
offspring of a collaboration among three Parisian labs: LIPADE/DAI group
(Université Paris Cité), LIP6/SMA Group (Univ. Pierre et Marie Curie), and
LAMSADE (Univ. Paris Dauphine). Each seminar is taking place in one of these
labs.

You can find here the speakers who have given their seminar in LIPADE.

WHERE WE ARE

We are located in the center of Paris, in the bustling Saint–Germain-des-Prés
area, and a short 5 minutes walk across the river Seine from the Louvre.

Once you arrive at the building (see map below), walk through the main entrance
and straight ahead, make a right to the large hall (with the staircases), and
take the elevator to the 8th floor. On exiting the elevator make a left, and
walk to the end of the corridor. Our offices are located in the two corridors to
the left and to the right.

Closest Metro stations (5-8 minutes walk):
St Germain des Prés (M4), Sevres Babylone (M10, M12)

Closest Bus stations (0-5 minutes walk):
Jacob (39, 95), St Guillaume (63), Pont du Carrousel–Quai Voltaire (24, 27)

More detailed directions, including maps with the metro/bus stations and
instructions on how to arrive from the airports.
