In 1988, Dr. Floyd Seager, a local physician, saw a man collapse on the street in Ogden and went to his aid. He learned that the man was homeless and didn’t have any access to medical care. Dr. Seager had to do something, so he and his wife, Dauna, founded the clinic in partnership with the Ogden Rescue Mission on September 16, 1988. The Seagers have since passed away, but their legacy lives on, with over 170 volunteers involved in the Seager Memorial Clinic. Top professionals in the area provide volunteer medical, dental, vision, and mental health care, and the entire Board of Directors and all officers of the clinic are volunteer positions. We have two part-time paid employees. We are fortunate to have developed strong partnerships with Intermountain Healthcare, Ogden Regional Medical Center, Ogden Rescue Mission, Weber Human Services, Weber-Morgan Health Department, and several other community organizations. We look forward to continuing to expand our services and connections to fulfill Dr. Seager’s vision of helping those in greatest need to easy-access, non-judgmental, compassionate medical care. To date the clinic has surpassed 80,000 patient visits, and we average 2,500 visits per year. * 2,330 NUMBER OF PATIENT VISITS IN 2023 * 84,300 PATIENT VISITS SINCE 1988 * $93 COST PER PATIENT VISIT * 333 VOLUNTEERS * 6,942 VOLUNTEER HOURS IN THE NEWS Previous April 11, 2024 WHAT IS IACT AND HOW DOES IT HELP SUPPORT COMMUNITIES? iAct is our Intermountain Health caregiver volunteer impact match program, designed to encourage caregivers to give back to the BY AVINASHGUSAIN October 12, 2023 SELECT HEALTH HONORS 20 NONPROFITS WITH SELECT HEALTH AWARDS ACROSS UTAH AND IDAHO Select Health recognized 20 Utah and Idaho non-profit organizations this week as winners of the 2023 Select Health awards for t BY AVINASHGUSAIN September 12, 2023 MUSICAL MEDICINE: SEAGER MEMORIAL CLINIC TO HOST CHARITY RECITAL OGDEN — The public is invited to attend the Seager Memorial Clinic’s third annual charity recital on Saturday. When I began going to the Seager Memorial Clinic, it was different. They treat people like people want to be treated and they make you feel like your issue is important to them and that they want to do everything in their power to help you.” DR. CHELSEA SLADE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER I am so grateful for the funding and support we receive, so that we are able to provide such a wonderful and comprehensive range of medical services and medication support for our patients. I have seen numerous lives individually touched and benefited. For example, a gentleman with a bad abscess on his arm, who was able to receive antibiotic pills that he could not otherwise afford. Without them, he almost certainly would have ended up in the hospital. Or a woman I met who was new to Ogden and down on her luck, with poorly controlled diabetes. She was able to get access to insulin for the first time in many years. CHARLOTTE TILLMAN PATIENT I am an African American black senior citizen aged 74, living on a fixed income with a special needs grandson. I live in the Ogden low-income area, one block away from the Seager Memorial Clinic. Several years ago I relocated back home to Ogden, Utah without medical treatment, insurance, or prescription coverage. In September 2020 I had a stroke and was hospitalized for four days. After my release from the hospital I visited the Seager Clinic with my list of medical issues. The volunteer physicians, nurses, and medical staff have kept me alive and independent, even during the Covid world dilemma. They’ve resolved medical issues in a positive fashion. My family and I applaud you and thank you very much. THE LATE DR. RICHARD WHITE VOLUNTEER PHYSICIAN In 2019 an 80-year-old man came to our eye clinic for loss of sight. He was blind. An eye exam revealed dense bilateral cataracts. Our volunteer staff got to work to schedule cataract surgery. He lived in a shack behind a grocery store on Washington Blvd. I volunteered to drive him and an interpreter to the outpatient surgery. The operation was very successful. When he next appeared at the clinic he was so grateful for the return of his vision. DANIEL MONAHAN PATIENT Thank you all so much for my new glasses. I literally see the world better thanks to everyone involved with the Optometry Clinic. In the past, it was very hard to get help with my vision needs. You put those experiences in the rearview mirror. DR. SCOTT SWIFT VOLUNTEER PHYSICIAN “The Seager Clinic has provided hope for the hopeless, care for the uncared for, and the human touch for the untouchable. What an opportunity for those with no needs to interact with those with endless needs.” KIMBO JONAS PATIENT I have always had difficulty finding a provider in which I am comfortable with.
