BRIDGING BORDERS, EXPLORING BOUNDARIES

The Tides Institute & Museum of Art is located directly on the United
States/Canada border between New England and the Atlantic Provinces on
traditional and continuing Passamaquoddy homelands. This location shapes the
TIdes Institute's international perspective to the broader world.

BUILDING COLLECTIONS, FOSTERING NEW WORKS

The TIdes Institute is building wide ranging collections that reflect the
northeast United States/Canada coast and connect it to a broader world. The
TIdes Institute fosters new works through its Artist-in-Residence Program,
Special Projects and Hand Line Press place based posters.

MASONIC HALL PROJECT

TIMA’s vision for Masonic Hall is to allow TIMA to tell and preserve the story
of the cultural legacy of this region and its broader ties to the rest of the
world for the first time through its remarkable collections with expanded and
more appropriate exhibition and collection spaces along with a local foods cafe.

STEWARD & CURATOR OF CULTURAL PLACES

The Tides Institute serves as steward and curator of a dozen cultural places
along the eastern coast of Maine including nine with historic buildings dating
from 1819 to the early 1940s. Four of the buildings are listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Restoration of these buildings is ongoing.

BRIDGING BORDERS, EXPLORING BOUNDARIES

Located directly on the U.S./Canada border between New England and the Atlantic
Provinces on traditional and continuing Passsamaquoddy homelands, the Tides
Institute & Museum of Art weaves together a range of regional and international
interests, resources, and initiatives to build critical mass, synergy and
connectedness that contribute to the region's cultural and economic well being
and links to the broader world.

TIMA AWARDED MAJOR NEH CHALLENGE GRANT

TIMA was recently awarded a prestigious Challenge Grant award of $400,000 from
the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to help with additional
redevelopment steps for Masonic Hall over the next several years. TIMA is
required to match the award with $1.2 million in private funds. The full
