"HOW’S YOUR RAINBOW?"

Thomas Nöla · February 14, 2022

Thomas Nöla et son Orchestre - “How’s Your Rainbow?”
Grabaciones Sentimentales / thomasnola.com - CD or download

“Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions but only illusions. And rainbows have nothing to hide."

While albums under his other monikers have come in recent years, 2022's "How's
Your Rainbow?" sees the first Thomas Nöla et son Orchestre album since 2010's
"Très Pathétique". Featuring longtime collaborator Karen S. Langlie on cello
throughout, the album also features a space duet with Galactic Witchcraft and
the reverberated Kinderhauntings of Fox Elliott. "How's Your Rainbow?" is the
sound of a child's storybook read from the dunes of the moon. But "there's gold
for fools where these colors end"...

Available as a 6-panel wallet with booklet or as a digital download.

Europeans encouraged to order from Grabaciones Sentimentales

JEROME DEPPE

Thomas Nöla · December 20, 2021

We have lost the special Mr. Jerome Deppe. An artist of broad talents, a kind
and considerate friend, and above all a very proud father of three sons.

Many people know about Jerome's music. That was probably his most public face.
His ability to perform his own truly original work, particularly playing guitar
and singing, was balanced with his ability to produce and add to the work of
others, being the glue that held things together and the vision that made them
flourish.

But his life as a visual artist, with an impressionist painting style, and
antique cyanotype photography, resulted in a timeless body of work.

As a friend, Jerome was never a downer, always bringing that wide-eyed and wild
smile to a situation. Whenever times would turn rough for him, he had an uncanny
way of rolling with it. Kinda laughing at the absurdity of life and keeping his
wits about him. It was admirable. He was also a generous host. He showed me the
ups and downs of Baltimore as an impromptu tour guide.

More than any of this, his three sons Tristan, Alex, and Hayden, were his
greatest joys... his greatest creations. It was always particularly impressive
to see him incorporate Tristan into his musical projects. What a feeling that
must be for both. When my turn came to become a father, Jerome encouraged me and
gave me a particular set of advice for how to get my son to enjoy reading. It
worked. I think about it often when we read together.

Saturday, I was perusing a local record shop and saw a 45 of James Taylor's
"Fire And Rain". Jerome came to mind a bit, as I heard him compare his work to
his. I don't know if I saw the connection, but "I always thought that I'd see
you again"...

Goodbye Jerome. You made life better.

🤍

Thomas Nöla · May 18, 2021

Yesterday, our friend Yoshi's beautiful life came to an end. He graced our
planet for 17 years, and now there is a serious hole. It's a cruel moment. One
that any parent of an animal expects to come one day.

Yoshi came into my life 8 years ago, unexpectedly, as a bonus when meeting Eva.
I was skeptical of him at first. He we pure mischief. But he quickly became my
best friend and throughout the years that followed, we were able to relate to
each other better than was possible with humans. I understood him, he understood
me. He was magical. A puppy nearly until the end. My life grew so much for
having known him.

For Eva, Yoshi was a constant companion through many different phases of life
over so many years. They were a pair who saved each other. She sacrificed for
him, taking lesser apartments because they would allow him, or lesser jobs
because he could spend the day with her. Why the sacrifice? Because he was worth
it. It was Eva and Yoshi.

He was, of course, a child.

We were lucky to have been able to show him a lot of the world. The beach, the
woods, all over New England, New York City, the South, he even made it to the
Lincoln Memorial. He was well traveled. Finally, we were able to move him into a
big home of our own.

He had attitude, and was semi-feral. I respected this in him. But he was
affectionate and loyal. A real partner. He did a lot to heal me.

More than all this, he was a funny friend. If life ever got too heavy, Yoshi was
there to undo it.

We remember a time when he walked up to a mirror leaning against a wall. Seeing
an identical dog in the mirror, he peeked around the side to investigate and saw
there was nothing behind. It blew his mind and he jumped into the air in shock.

Another time, he was sitting on my lap on a bench and we were letting time pass.
This was a common occurrence. A stranger started approaching this cute, little
Maltese, exclaiming in a high pitched noise about how precious he was and
encroaching on our territory. Yoshi snapped into action to defend me and
exploded at her. She recoiled. He was such a good friend.

I learned many things from Yoshi. Above all, he showed me that life is finite,
not to be wasted, and that empathy is all that actually matters.

It wasn't until the last 2 years that he started to show any signs of the years
passing. Age caught up to him, like it'll catch up to us all, and the treatment
couldn't save him.

Talking to him by the river and through the park one last time, I told him all
of this, how much he did for us, how much his life meant, and how I hope to see
him again someday.

I love you, Yoshi.

LIVE AT HOME - 11.21.2020

Thomas Nöla · November 23, 2020

I also recorded this short set on a faulty 1/4” reel-to-reel tape stock. It
sounds curious:

I performed 5 songs for a live internet show on 11.21.2020. I decided to record
the audio directly to my 1950's Soundmirror reel-to-reel tape machine. I used a
tape stock that is "bad". The recording was "bad". Maybe it's actually "good".

FIN DE LAPIN

Thomas Nöla · October 30, 2020

Hello,

Today, the Lapin project ends. This is not a sad finale, just a change to open
new doors. It was always a finite experiment, and it has concluded.

Spanning nearly 2 decades, it had 3 branches. First, a small B-movie production
company named Eskimo Films began making little motion pictures with no money or
infrastructure. This brought travels to sand and jungle and small theaters.
Next, Disques de Lapin began a long period of worldwide music publications.
Dandy Tapes arrived near the end as a hand-made cherry on top.

The project was deeply obscure and it went down its own pathways without thought
of acclaim or reward. It ends as a success. Its full story will be told next
year in an online Lapin library.

I will continue on solo from thomasnola.com. New things are to come.

Thank you to lapins worldwide.

P.S. - Some releases by other artists remain in inventory at the moment. Contact
