Small School. Big Impact.
What our Parents Say:

EVERYTHING IS CHANGING.

We are brimming at the edge of a technological revolution that will
fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and ultimately educate our children.
The speed of current breakthroughs has no historical precedent and it is
estimated that 65% of children entering elementary school will have jobs that do
not yet exist.

With an education system rooted in the Industrial Revolution, educators are
faced with the unique challenge of grooming students with an alternate skill set
needed for the modern world.

So how do we educate and prepare our children for a future of the unknown?

PROJECT BASED LEARNING SQUARES THIS CIRCLE…

…by focusing on the ability to learn for oneself. Students embark on projects
that challenge them to ask more questions, test theories, experience failure,
refine processes, and collaborate with their peers. The result is continued
excitement around learning, elevated strategic thinking, refined problem solving
skills, thicker skin to tolerate errors and mistakes, and a deep sense of
empathy.

YES, EVERYTHING IS CHANGING. AND PORTFOLIO SCHOOL IS READY.

In the heart of Tribeca, we’re an independent school currently serving
elementary and middle school grades. Now accepting applications for Fall 2022
for entering K-6 graders.

“At the vanguard of a movement of startup schools seeking to foster learning
experiences that map to the jobs of the future.”

WHAT OUR PARENTS SAY:

"Portfolio School is unlike any school. They’ve done their research and
understand that children learn best by questioning, creating, and applying
knowledge. Through many student-inspired projects and an interdisciplinary
curriculum, my son is learning to be passionate, curious, creative, and
innovative. Portfolio knows how to keep the children wanting to learn more."

4 predictions for the future of work

"These schools set the stage for what future education will look like. We will
rethink the way talent is developed and deployed, and prepare students for a
lifetime of learning better paced to the rapid evolution of skills."

The K-12 Classroom Experience in the Age of Personalized Learning

"Portfolio School is at the forefront of this trend; its enterprising young
students have reached out to NASA engineers to discuss a unit on Mars, and New
York University music education grad students have guided them in producing a
soundtrack for their moviemaking project. Schachtel and Habib think that
interacting with experts will only become more important in the future, as
people must continuously master new technologies and skills throughout their
careers. “They're going to have to know how to seek out the right places to
educate themselves,” Schachtel said. “They might have to find mentors, and we
want them to start getting comfortable with that idea as soon as possible.”

Are these the schools of the future?

"Imagine a school...where students choose their own curriculum and teachers are
more like mentors guiding them through activities and topics of interest.
Instead of homework and tests, portfolios and exhibitions would display your
films, writing, art, and creations, and you were constantly encouraged to keep
doing more."

Silicon Valley veterans are ditching fast-track careers and going all-in with
their time and money as they reimagine education for their children.

"Portfolio School is at the vanguard of a movement of startup schools seeking to
foster learning experiences...that map to the jobs of the future."

TONY WAGNER, HARVARD UNIVERSITY:

"Portfolio School is redefining what is possible in K-12 education. By creating
an environment not only emphasizing what students know, but more significantly
what students can do with what they know, Portfolio is preparing its students to
succeed and create a positive impact in the rapidly changing technological,
entrepreneurial, and global world they are inheriting."
