Mass pro-Palestine protests which caused New York City to grind to a halt on
Monday were coordinated by groups with links to AOC and Susan Sarandon.

The city was besieged by demonstrators from six groups who blocked major vehicle
routes in and out of the city on Monday, leading to 325 arrests.

Groups including the Palestinian Youth Movement, Democratic Socialists of
America, Writers Against War on Gaza, Jewish Voice for Peace, Al-Awda and
Critical Resistance all took part in the action.

The New York Post first reported that the groups have ties to Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez, actress Susan Sarandon and colleges including Yale, Brown and
UCLA and have received funding  from a Rockefeller family foundation, and a Ben
& Jerry's Foundation.

The coordinated action hit the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg
Bridge, and Holland Tunnel, stopping traffic out of Manhattan.

Justin Finkelstein, an analyst with the Center on Extremism at the Anti
Defamation League, told the outlet that this widespread protest was evidence of
secret channels between the groups.

Pro-Palestine protesters, who seemed to have trapped their arms together,
forming a human barricade, using metal tubes, concrete, and duct tape Brooklyn
Bridge, which connects downtown Manhattan to Dumbo in Brooklyn, is swarmed by
police arresting the protesters on Monday

Finkelstein: 'I this is the most disruptive that I’ve seen. It’s slowing down
daily movement of New Yorkers and making it impossible not to notice them.

He added: 'I think that is their goal. They think these direct actions raise
awareness of the Palestinian cause. Anything that gets them visibility is
something they might consider.'

Ocasio-Cortez has ties with the New York City Democratic Socialists of America,
while Sarandon has been a vocal critic of Israel and a member of the Writers
Against the War on Gaza, who were both present at the protest on Monday.

Actress Susan Sarandon appeared at the protest on Monday at the Manhattan
Bridge.

In a video shared to X, formerly known as Twitter, the 77-year-old can be heard
saying: 'No one's free until everyone's free. And it's my tax money that's
paying for all these horrible weapons. It's a genocide, there's no bystanders in
a genocide.'

The Thelma & Louise star was dropped by a production company late last year
after she made an anti-Jewish rant a pro-Palestine rally in New York City.

Her remarks at the rally sparked widespread outrage, with critics saying they
ignored the centuries of prejudice and antisemitism the Jewish community has
endured.

Sarandon publicly apologized for what she described as a 'terrible mistake'
after claiming Jewish people 'are getting a taste of what it feels like to be
Muslim'.

The Palestinian Youth Movement that participated in the protest describes
themselves as being a 'transnational, independent, grassroots movement'.

Three demonstrators, wearing face coverings, are led off the bridge on Monday
afternoon after hours of disruption Speaking at a protest on November 17, Susan
Sarandon said frightened Jews in America are 'getting a taste' of how it feels
to be Muslim

Influence Watch, a tool funded by the Capital Research Center, characterizes the
group as an 'anti-Israel group' that aims to 'delegitimize the state of Israel.

The group was co-founded by Loubna Qutami, a research associate at Brown
University and an assistant at University of California (UCLA).

Some of the groups protests include a protest on New Years Eve in New York City
and a protest outside Macy's on Black Friday.

The group said: 'It's not Black Friday, it's the People's Day for Palestine.'

Meanwhile, the Jewish Voice for Peace describe themselves as being 'the largest
progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world'.

The Anti-Defamation League branded the group a 'radical anti-Israel and
anti-Zionist activist group that advocates for the boycott of Israel and
eradication of Zionism'.

The Rockefeller Brothers Foundation have given $490,000 'for general support'
since 2019, with awarded given to the group in June of last year.

According to NGO monitor, the group had previously received funds totaling
$448,000 from the Schwab Charitable Fund between 2012 and 2014.

The Ben & Jerry's Foundation also previously donated $2,500 to the Jewish Voice
for Peace in 2014, according to the site.

chaos by sprawling themselves in a linked line across the entry Officers rounded
up the cuffed protesters and lined them up in single file before hoisting them

Alongside the other groups was the New York chapter of Al-Awda, who counts human
rights lawyer Lamis Deek as former co-chair of the group and Mazin Qumsiyeh, a
former professor at Yale as a co-founder.

Al-Awda, which is Arabic for right of return, is headed by Abbas Hamideh and has
been described by Influence Watch as 'maintaining ties with terrorist
organizations'.

The Post reported that the group had previously sponsored a pro-Palestine
festival at the University of Penn.

The event is said to have included former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters, a well
known of critic of Israel, and former CNN commentator Marc Lamont Hill who was
fired for using the phrase 'free Palestine from the river to the sea'.

Members of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America had also appeared
at the protest on Monday.

The organization says they aim to counter 'US imperialism' and disrupt 'the war
machine in New York City with demonstrations.

The group, who has close ties with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and had previously
described her as their 'socialist superstar'.

The New York chapter came under scrutiny after they failed to condemn the
actions of Hamas' attack on Israel in October.

Ocsaio-Cortez later denounced the groups demonstration alongside Congressman
Jamaal Bowman who had previously been a member.

Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAZOG) had also been apart of the
demonstrations on Monday, which touts members including Game of Thrones author
George R.R. Martin.

Susan Sarandon is also a keen supporter of the group, with her and Martin both
signing a statement of solidarity with the Palestinian people after the events
of October 7.

The group previously participated in demonstrations including one at John F.
Kennedy International Airport last month.

The Big Apple, which has the biggest Jewish population in the world outside of
Israel, has been a hotbed for protests since the conflict started in October.

On Monday, a sign at New Jersey-bound Holland Tunnel - where traffic was brought
to a halt around 10am - read: 'Lift the siege on Gaza. Ceasefire now.'

Palestinian flags, chanting and cheering as one person screamed through a

Palestinian flags, chanting and cheering as one person screamed through a
megaphone.

They shouted in unison: 'Free, free Palestine. Stop the Zionist occupation.'

At Manhattan Bridge, swathes of beeping vehicles could be heard as the
protesters got in position and formed a human chain across the entry path into
the city.

Once they were locked in a line, another gang of protesters formed a row behind
them, holding large signs and screaming: 'Shut it down!'

At Brooklyn Bridge, around 40 protesters sat crossed-legged in the middle of
the road as raging traffic was blocked from entering, just after the peak of
rush hour.

Demonstrators strapped their arms together with metal tubes, concrete and tires
in their latest attempt to demand a ceasefire in the war between Israel and
Hamas.

Videos showed that as the police presence escalated, some of the disruptive
protesters were carted away in handcuffs.
