Professor Zhang is X.Q. Deng Presidential Chair Professor of School of Data
Science in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Director of Center
for Computer Vision in Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and
Robotics for Society, Director of CUHK(SZ)-Linklogis Joint Laboratory of CV &
AI. David Zhang graduated in Computer Science from Peking University. He
received his MSc in 1982 and his PhD in 1985 in both Computer Science from the
Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), respectively. From 1986 to 1988 he was a
Postdoctoral Fellow at Tsinghua University and then an Associate Professor at
the Academia Sinica, Beijing. In 1994 he received his second PhD in Electrical
and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He
has been a Chair Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where he is
the Founding Director of Biometrics Research Centre (UGC/CRC) supported by the
Hong Kong SAR Government since 2005. Currently he is Presidential Chair
Professor in Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). He also serves as
Visiting Chair Professor in Tsinghua University and HIT, and Adjunct Professor
in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Peking University, National University of
Defense Technology and the University of Waterloo. He is both Founder and
Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Image & Graphics (IJIG)
(http://www.worldscinet.com/ijig/ijig.shtml) and Springer International Series
on Biometrics (KISB) (http://www.springer.com/series/6191); Organizer, the first
International Conference on Biometrics Authentication (ICBA); and Associate
Editor of more than ten international journals including IEEE Transactions and
so on. Over past 40 years, he have been working on pattern recognition, image
processing and biometrics, where many research results have been awarded and
some created directions, including palmprint recognition, computerized TCM and
facial beauty analysis, are famous in the world. So far, he has published over
20 monographs, 500 international journal papers and 40 patents from
USA/Japan/China. From 2014 to 2021, he has been continuously listed as a Highly
Cited Researchers in Engineering by Clarivate Analytics (formerly known as
Thomson Reuters) (http://highlycited.com). He is ranked 85 with H-Index 120 at
Top 1,000 Scientists for international Computer Science and Electronics in 2021
(http://www.guide2research.com/scientists). Professor Zhang is also an
Distinguished Speaker of the IEEE Computer Society, and an IEEE Life Fellow and
an IAPR Fellow. Professor Zhang is selected as a Fellow of both the Royal
Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

Raffaele Pilla, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Doctor Europaeus, received his Master’s degree
in Pharmacy at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy in 2005, where
he also served internships at the Cell Physiology Laboratory and Molecular
Biology Laboratory. Prior, he was an Erasmus Student at Faculté de Pharmacie de
Reims in Reims, France. He received his Doctor Europaeus in 2010 from
Pitié-Salpétrière Institute in Paris, France. Also in 2010, he received his
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Physiology, and Pathology of Muscle at G. d’Annunzio
University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy. He was hired as a Postdoctoral Scholar in
the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida
in Tampa, on two research grants funded by the Office of Naval Research (US
Navy) and Divers’ Alert Network. He has written and lectured widely worldwide.

Dr. Tan Suat Cheng obtained her B. Sc. (honours) in Biotechnology at School of
Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah with First Class Honour and
was selected as the only recipient of Royal Academic Award (non-indigenous
category) of the year 2007. In 2008, she obtained full scholarship from Ministry
of Higher Education, Malaysia to pursue her PhD at Department of Physiology,
Anatomy and Genetic (DPAG), University of Oxford. Upon graduation in 2011, she
was appointed as Senior Lecturer of Biomedicine in Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Dr. Tan received several academic recognitions/awards including selected as
Malaysian Fellow for 47th Asia Pacific Advanced Network Meeting in Daejoen,
South Korea; selected as Malaysian Young Scientist Representative for 68th
Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany; appointed by Academic Science
of Malaysia (ASM) as the Exco Member of Young Scientist Network-ASM; Travel
award from International Society of Heart Research in 2010; Student award from
Green Templeton College, University of Oxford in 2010; Competitive bursary from
both British Society for Cardiovascular Research and Oxford Stem Cell Institute
in 2011 and so on. Further, she also obtained seven research grants from
Universiti Sains Malaysia and Ministry of Higher Education between years 2012 to
2022. Currently, she is pioneering a Neural Stem Cell Research Group in School
of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her current research focuses on
developing a reliable stem cell-based therapeutic technique to treat human
neurological disorders such as stroke.

Professor Hu is got PhD from the University of Manchester, is a world-renowned
expert in smart materials for textiles, wearables and biomedical applications, a
top 2% world's most highly cited scientists by Stanford University with actual
ranking of top 0.097%, 278among285331 material scientists with an overall rank
of 24313 among around 10m scientists worldwide. She joined in City University of
Hong Kong in 2020 and she is the Professor of Department of Biomedical
Engineering. She is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and Fellow of Textile
Institute, UK and Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Textiles and Apparel
respectively. Professor Hu received about 60 awards for her science and
technology research achievements.Exclusively, she is also a recipient of the
China National Talent Award (1000-person scheme), Distinguished Achievement
Award by the US-based Fiber Society, First-Class Sang Ma Textile Science and
Technology Award by The Hong Kong Sang Ma Trust Fund. Apart from her outstanding
performance in academic research, what distinguishes her distinctively from many
professors is that Professor Hu has compelling impacts on industries.
Specifically, Professor Hu is a pioneer and distinguished academic leader with
world-wide impact in shape memory materials and artificial spider silks for
textiles and clothing, healthcare and biomedical applications. She has Google
H-index of 60 with 15149 citations, published 14 books, 34 book chapters, >120
plenary/keynote conference lectures and >350 refereed journal Papers. As
corresponding or 1st author, her publications appeared in top journals such as
Advanced Materials，Advanced Functional Materials, Biomaterials and
AngewandteChemie and are frequently highlighted in cover pages and journal
websites. Her laboratory in CityU currently focuses on unearthing scientific
principles and providing solutions to key problems in Healthcare of Wearable
Materials in three major areas: Traditional Chinese medical therapies and their
materials, energy materials and healthcare as well as spider silks and their
relatives as biomaterials as well as personal protective integration.

Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and obtained his PhD degree in
biochemistry from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Before joining
Hong Kong Baptist University, he once worked at the China Pharmaceutical
University andthe Universityof Macau. Dr. Yu is known for his research in herbal
pharmacology, focusing on anticancer and anti-inflammatoryherbs, and in quality
control of Chinese medicinal materials. He has published more than 200

Basma Najar is a post-doc researcher at the Department of Agricultural, Food,
and Agro-Environment sciences of the University of Pisa. Basma completed her
Ph.D. at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Pisa and her
undergraduate studies at the University of Tunisia. Her research interest
phytochemical analyses of secondary metabolites of aromatic, medicinal, and food
plant species. Basma has learned and applied both qualitative and quantitative
methodologies: GC-MS, HPLC as well as statistical analyses. During his Ph.D. she
spent six months at the University of Malta at the department of Biology under
the supervisor of Professor Joseph Buhagiar where she deepened her knowledge in
the cell culture, especially the cancer cell lines. She has collaborated
actively with researchers in several other disciplines, particularly veterinary
science. Being original from Tunisia allowed her to be bi-lingual and speak both
Arabic and French as a mother tongue. Having moved to the other side of the
Mediterranean Sea helped her to learn the Italian language and of course,
English which was the language of study during the Ph.D. Basma serves as guest
editor in the Plant Journal and is one of the reviewer editorial boards in
Frontiers journal in plant science as well as editorial board in Natural
Resources for Human Health and in Medicon Agriculture & Environmental Sciences.

ABOUT VALENCIA, SPAIN



Valencia is one of the largest and most famous cities in Spain. The city has a
perfect geographical location: it is situated on the banks of the Turia River,
which flows into the Mediterranean Sea. So, for centuries Valencia had been a
key point during knockdown battles between Romans, Visigoths, Christians and

You will find beaches right in the very heart of it. During the summer-months it
is heavily visited by tourists, and if you want to spend holidays at the beach,
with fantastic possibilities for any kind of sports (golf, diving, cycling,
tennis, etc. are all very popular here) and a boiling nightlife, together with
an ample cultural offer, then Valencia is the place for you.
Important trade fairs confirm Valencia's position as one of the most dynamic
cities in Spain, as does the spectacular Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, the
"City of Arts and Sciences", a newly constructed area of the city boasting
extravagant architecture.
October and November are more active months and the weather permits beach
outings. Pavement cafes are still open until around the end of October.
