HomeServicesRatesPhotosPortfolioAbout me Contact The Shed Recording Studio Affordable audio servicesin Victoria, BC Book A session SERVICES Recording At very reasonable and affordable rates, this is the perfect studio to get your band off the ground with your first single or EP. The Shed Studio is setup primarily for recording rock bands, but is not exclusive to that genre. Mixing and Mastering Mixing is done to turn a collection of tracks and parts into one cohesive sound. Without mixing, instruments can sound out of place, and the song will sound rough and unfinished. Mastering is the final touch that takes a mix from 90% to 100%, and ensures the audio is ready for distribution on every platform. Demos Recording demos can be extremely useful for a new band. Most obviously, they give you recordings that can be sent to promoters, venues, grant committees, etc. They also give you a chance to flesh out your songs, and make production choices that can help you find your sound. Besides that, its also just fun. Rates RECORDING Recording is done at a day rate or half day rate. Both include an engineer present for the duration of the session Full day: 350$, 9 hours including breaks Half day: 190$, 4 hours MIXING AND MASTERING Mixing and mastering rates will be different for every song. If a song is expected to take longer and more effort to mix/master, it will be quoted higher. Mixing: 50-150$ depending on the length and complexity of the track with 5 free revisions. Mastering: 20-40$ depending on the length and complexity of the track with 3 free revisions. DEMOS Recording demos is the same rate as recording, however mixing will be done during the session with input from the artist present at no extra cost, and the artist will leave the session with a demo-quality mix. Listen to some highlights of their songs recorded and mixed at The Shed Recording Studio THE CHAIN The Chain is a local Victoria-based punk band who I had the pleasure of recording as my first clients. Listen to their songs recorded, mixed, and mastered at The Shed Recording Studio ABOUT ME I am Ellis Frank, the engineer for the Shed. I've been playing guitar since I was quite young, and also play bass, drums, and some keyboards. I grew up in a very musical family. My dad is a member of Spirit of the West, and because of that I've been lucky enough to share the stage with them, members of the Barenaked Ladies, The Odds, and Sarah McLaughlin. I had my first introduction to audio engineering at 10, recording multi track covers of my favourite songs on my iPad. My first experience in a professional studio was sitting in on recording sessions my dad managed. Since then I built up experience in audio engineering recording demos for bands I've been in and recording, mixing, and mastering my own music. I have been taking audio engineering lessons with Justin LaPointe from Barnhouse Sound Productions, elevating my skills to a professional level. Some of my musical influences are Radiohead, Pixies, Nirvana, the Microphones, Black Midi, Black Country New Road, Queens of the Stone Age, and Squid. On the engineering side, I take a lot of influence from Steve Albini. I love the Victoria underground music scene, and I hope I can be a part of that and contribute to it with my skills and services.
