MODEST OUTPERFORMANCE BY FOCUSING ON RESILIENT BUSINESSES

Seek businesses (stocks) that can grow their aggregate earnings 15-20x in 20
years. Zoomed out, portfolio stocks should exhibit the following
characteristics:


RESILIENCE

Resilient and anti-fragile businesses become stronger as their competitors
weaken during chaos. For long-range owner, resilience is critical as most
businesses face downcycles.


GAINING COMPETITIVE STRENGTH

The business should exhibit growth in market and profit share over a 5-10 year
period, ideally surpassing industry growth in volume. Additionally, there should
be improvements in balance sheet strength and ROIC over this timeframe.


FAIRLY PRICED

Buying “Quality” at any price is dangerous non-sense and may lead to wealth
destruction. I try to avoid falling for popular investment ideas and happy to
wait for buying strong businesses/stocks at fair prices.
