THIS EMAIL WAS PART OF A PHISHING TEST RUN BY ECB DG/IS DIGITAL SECURITY
SERVICES DIVISION

What Is Phishing

PHISHING IS AN ATTACK THAT AIMS AT COLLECTING SENSITIVE INFORMATION.

It starts with a personalised email where the attacker is using social
engineering, a technique attempting to fool you into taking an action.

How Does It Work

WITH AN EMAIL WHICH LOOKS LEGITIMATE.

The email may contain a form, a link to a fake website or malicious attachment.
With this email hackers want to collect your data, steal sensitive information
or install a malware. This was an exercise and nothing happened on your device
but be careful for the future emails.

How To Protect

BE SUSPICIOUS OF EMAILS THAT REQUIRE “IMMEDIATE ACTION”.

Be aware of unexpected messages containing links asking you to click, or to
offers sent via email or social media. Open only attachments you trust. Be aware
of grammar or spelling mistakes. Never answer to requests for passwords or
personal codes. Be suspicious of email coming from someone you know but not from
the usual email address.

Always Report

YOU SHOULD REPORT ALL SUSPICIOUS EMAILS.

Use the “Suspicious Email button” in Outlook to report. Alternatively, you can
also send suspicious emails to phishing@ecb.europa.eu as an attachment.

For more information about phishing, check out on the intranet.

We would like to inform you that for the purpose of this phishing exercise, your
personal data (i.e. name, ECB email address and the Division you are working
for) is processed in line with European Union data protection legislation. The
ECB is the controller for processing of your personal data. The ECB uses CERT-EU
(and their sub processors), an inter institutional team formed by personnel
seconded by EU institutions or EU member states, to process your personal data
on behalf of the ECB and according to its instructions. Further information on
how your personal data is being processed, data retention, recipients, how to
exercise your rights and points of contact related to the processing of personal
data can be found in the privacy policy of CERT-EU.
